    Good lyrics

Been enjoying the new Ray Lamontagne CD. This song is one of my favorites. How Come People on the street now Faces long and grim Souls are feeling heavy And faith is growing thin Fears are getting stronger You can Feel them on the rise Hopelessness got some by the throat you can see it in their eyes I said how come How come Everybody on a shoestring Everybody in a hole Everybody crossing their fingers and toes Government man spin his politics till he got you pinned Everybody trying to reach out to each other But they don't know where to begin I said how come I can't tell the free world from living hell I said how come How come all I see is a child of god in misery I said how come the pistol now as profit The bullet some kind of lord and king But pain is the only promise that this so called savior is going to bring Love can be a liar And justice can be a thief And freedom can be an empty cup from which everybody want to drink I said how come I can't tell the free world from living hell I said how come How come all i see is a child of god in misery I said how come Its just man killing man Killing man Killing man Killing man Killing man I don't understand Its just man killing man
  2. I picked up some good organic mate at Uwagimya market for a good price. I like it better than the typical "Yerba Mate" brand that is sold everywhere too. Another thought for you is to get some green tea with toasted brown rice in it. Good stuff and you can get a pretty good caffiene buzz off it. Loose leaf you can get it for about $4.50 for a 7oz bag at Uwagimaya too.
  3. This one wins the prize!
  4. Can't you take a bus or train up there?
  5. I found a green alien at the base of astroman and then found a BD nut tool later that day hiking back down the trail at night. On same trip though my climbing partner donated my yellow alien to the booty gods so it was a wash in the end...
  6. Before you give anything to your partner after an accident, make sure you know what they are allergic to. Some people are hypersensitive to ibuprofen, naproxen, and even asprin. Anaphlyaxis will ensure a quick and unfortunate ending to their pain. My $0.02.
  7. Blake, I'm new to AT and am finding that I feel like a strong beginner in the backcountry. In resorts I am a pretty strong intermediate skier. The powder and snow inconsistency, and the softness of my boots, is taking some time to get used to. Have fun and keep at it. It looked really cool over that way from the Muir Snowfield yesterday. Pinnacle is definately on my list of places to ski this spring.
  8. Climb: Mt. Rainier-Muir Snowfield Date of Climb: 12/3/2004 Trip Report: Did my first outing of the year yesterday (and my first outing to ski on Rainier). We skined up the snowfield to about 8000' yesterday. Bluebird skies and good snow for the morning and early afternoon. It was beautiful up there! Clouds blew in from the west around 1:30 pm with some pretty strong wind gusts. Got blown over trying to lift my pack/skis on at pan point then post holed through thigh deep powder to get to the boot/ski track, which made it a full value experience. Got some good truns in on the 4-6 inches of untracked snow. There are still some rocks just under the snow, especially on any exposed ridges. The current storm will hopefully bury all of them. Much fun was had! Gear Notes: What I should have brought... Camera to show all you fools who had to work how nice it was. Wouldn't have minded an axe for the traverse down from Pan Point...that's a steep dropoff. It just made me mindful of my balance. Approach Notes: Road conditions were good. A little ice buildup just before you get to the Paradise parking lot. The gates were open at 7:30 am, which was earlier than the recent average of 9:30. Ranger said if they don't get new snow all they have to do is put some new sand down and then they'll open it.

Luke, I hope you can come down this way and show some of those amazing pics from Mongolia. I missed the show in b'ham.
  11. I sent an email to NEWSTIPS to let her know that there is an important story in here.
  12. Actually Jason, I think the Seattle Mountaineers do choose which films are shown. At least that has been my impression from the comments made at the beginning and end of the BFF showings I have seen here in Seattle. The guy always states that he selects films that are NOT produced and submited by big companies (e.g., National Geographic) in hopes that films that will not be seen in other venues (like on National Geographic t.v. programs) can be viewed by people here in Seattle.
  13. One of your wrist bones... Go get it checked out.
  14. Did this hike on Friday with a couple other fun cc.comer's. About half way up we got to the snow and slogged our way through 2-6" of freshies to get up to the ridge below the scramble. Since we didn't have a rope we decided to wait on the scramble until spring, as one slip appeared to lead to the quick exit down the peak. This was a fun hike and will make a good scramble when the summit rock pyramid is dry. Check it out.

true, true. I thought of you when I typed this yesterday. BTW that port I told you about was very good.
  16. Interesting thread. Something to note is that a lot of drugs interact with herbal supplements and some foods (and a lot of over the counter stuff). I noticed that several herbs were listed in the interactions lists above. If you take herbal supplements (some common culprits: St. John's Wort, ginko, kava, garlic) or regularly take antacids, make sure your doctor and pharmacist know everything you take. Also, you may want to avoid drinking grapefruit juice if you are taking drugs that have any effect on the liver or are on something that dehyrdates you.

It's not yet 4:30 and it is dark outside... I can't wait until mid Feb.
  18. Split pea soup, Widmer Stout, and some Essential Baking company olive bread. Yum. Took a nap afterwards so I'm a little behind on posting my menu
  19. Dru's suggestion of Lake Serene is a good one. Not too long, well maintained trail, waterfalls and great views at the top too. Another good one off I-90 is Lake Annette. Not a lot of sprawling landscape views, but it is a nice hike and a picnic at the lake would be fun.
  20. Great thread. I've wondered the same thing myself Carolyn, but never bothered to ask. Good to see so many supportive opinions from the guys out there.
  21. Sitting at one of the outdoor tables that were brought indoors, front and center. I had to cut and run right after it was over so I could get another hour of studying in last night. It was a good movie. My friend gave me the hat he won. His head was too big. The jibbing was totally unexpected. I thought that I would only see long sweeping turns with one knee dragging down the mountain.
  22. Always a comment from the peanut gallery, Mr. Peakbagger... Nice post Doug. I'm jealous that people are getting out to enjoy this fine break in the weather. I'm stuck at my kitchen table writing a research paper for school.
  23. this is my favorite example of ice axes as an anchor. definately creative.
  24. Take up surfing and move to Cosat Rica. New Zealand is awesome but you better have a large bank account before you go, or you might not make enough money to ever come back. The Netherlands is nice from what I hear, but ChrisT...the assisted suicide angle may make them sound progressive but... Look into it a little deeper and you'll find out that many doctors have been accused of euthenasia. That is just wrong. For me, Mendoza Argentina. It is the equivalent of Napa valley surrounding a decent sized city. Nice people, good food, great wine. Culture wise I think I'd prefer Argentina to Chile. To illustrate the differences the two countries are often compared to Italy and Germany.
