  1. Just curious what most here use/keep on hand during mountain trips or for prolonged strenuous activities. I'm not a big fan of Tylenol and have always had success with Bayer Aspirin, but I recently tried Motrin and noticed it really knocks out joint pain and headaches effectively. Any thoughts on pro/cons of each? I've read Motrin can be hard on the kidneys when used in high doses, but is there any kindey danger using this in normal doses while dehydrated? Is Motrin a better anti-inflamatory drug than aspirin?
  2. UN-FUCKING-REAL! Oh well, it's not like Seattle has any real fans anyhow.
  3. Good call. I forgot about that one.
  4. Those state roads Seattleites help pay for are the very arteries they use to bleed the rest of the state.
  5. Lenny Kravitz. Can't think of any others. I usually like to listen to an album/cd in it's original entirety.
  6. Likewise, if you want to get Greeners all riled up, all you have to say is Ed Abbey was a terrorist. Regardless, your analogy is way off. I believe Jesus actively discouraged armed revolt against the occupying Roman authority. "Render unto Ceasar", and all that....
  7. The New Tacoma Narrows project will cost $800 million. Those who use it will be paying 100% of its construction cost (and bond-debt retirement) through tolls. Is it wrong to ask Seattle residents and others who will use this proposed $4 Billion tunnel to do the same? BTW, AK; this reply was only a hit. I have not firmly bitten down on this troll and am now swimming off to look for better bait.
  8. FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE:November 14th 2004 RE: Christmas Party I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will takeplace on December 23, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...feel free to sing along. A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00 pm. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus! Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time! Merry Christmas to you and your family. Patty ================================================================ FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: November 15, 2004 RE: Holiday Party In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party." The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians or those still celebrating Reconciliation Day. There will be no Christmas tree present. No Christmas carols sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment. Happy now? Happy Holidays to you and your family. Patty ================================================================ FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Employees DATE: November..?? 2004 RE: Holiday Party Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table ... you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only"; you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this? Help Somebody????? Forget about the gifts exchange, no gifts exchange are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and the executives believe $10.00 is a little chintzy. NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED. ================================================================ FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director To: All Employees DATE: I Forget.. RE: Holiday Party What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20 begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms. Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be a flower arrangement for the Gay men's table. To the person asking permission to cross dress,no cross-dressing will be allowed. We will have booster seats for short people. Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food we suggest for those people with high blood pressure to taste first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics, - I am sorry the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Did I miss anything?!?!? Patty ================================================================ FROM: Patty Lewis, Human Resources Director TO: All Fucking Employees DATE: Who cares... RE: The Fucking Holiday Party Vegetarian pricks, I've had it with you people!!! We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it,and you'll get your fucking salad bar, including organic tomatoes. But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW! I hope you all have a rotten holiday! The Bitch from HELL!!!!!!! ================================================================ FROM: Joan Bishop, Acting Human Resources Director DATE: November 18, 2004 RE: Patty Lewis and Holiday Party I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery and I'll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay. Happy Holidays
  9. That sounds like if somebody went into a "club" in Utah for a drink and all they were served was weak beer that you would blame the drinker for the bar's rules. Hopefully a question of morals would be over something more substantial than that. Another classic example of how the left will give an unlimited pass to a fellow liberal politician. She knowingly joined. Her participation was uncoerced and lasted many years.
  10. I believe Minx may be referring to Miss Christine's membership in a UW sorority that specifically excluded black Americans. Still think morality is unimportant?
  11. No even a good try, Dave. The security council has nothing to do with this, and so far, the only American implicated in this fiasco is Mark Rich!! You may remember him as the illegal campaign financier who was pardoned by Bill Clinton during his last few days in office. Try doing a little research on the subject, stop being the blame America drone/parrot, and STFU.
  12. Good post PP. I'm not sure how long it will take, but the UN is certainly destined to go the way of the old League of Nations. It has become a bizarre mix of debating society, anti-democratic thuggery, nepotism, cronyism, and extortionism all rolled into the guise of "hope for a better world". The oil-for-food scandal is a case-in-point, as are a number of humanitarian and peace keeping failures both past and ongoing. And let's not forget the Kurt Woldheim(sp?) scandal not so long ago. The place really does look like something out of a Star Wars movie set. Regardless, the UN certainly doesn't have our freedom anywhere near the top of their agenda. Lets leave the humanitarian stuff to The Intl. Red Cross and the "peacekeeping" duties to interested parties.
  13. Our company has two classifications re vehicle accidents in corporate vehicles: 1) "Avoidable" 2) "Unavoidable". The only type of accident that qualifies for this classification is sitting at a complete stop and getting hit from behind. ....So it sounds like your accident was "Avoidable". Stop making excuses for your own inattentiveness. Glad you're OK, though.
  14. I can make them all stop!
  15. I think we agree. I was merely trying to make the tunnel-visionist k.a. Billygoat understand that conservatives aren't any more guilty of this than liberals.
  16. ...yea, and liberals like Christine Gregoire trying to regulate smoking out of existence, and forcing grown adults to wear seatbelts and bike helmets.
  17. A co-worker sent me this email. Good stuff ....... People over 35 should be dead by now. According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 40's, 50's, 60's, or even maybe the early 70's probably shouldn't have survived. Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, . and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. (Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.) As children, we would ride in cars with no seatbelts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors! We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then rode down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street lights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. NO CELL PHONES!!!!! Unthinkable! We did not have Play stations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal cell phones, personal computers, or Internet chat rooms. We had friends! We went outside and found them. We played dodge ball, and sometimes, the ball would really hurt. We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones and teeth, and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. They were accidents. No one was to blame but us. Remember accidents? We had fights and punched each other and got black and blue and learned to get over it. We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms, and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's home and knocked on the door, or rang the bell or just walked in and talked to them. Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't as smart as others, so they failed a grade and were held back to repeat the same grade. Horrors! Tests were not adjusted for any reason. Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law. Imagine that! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're one of them! Congratulations! Please pass this on to others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before lawyers and government regulated our lives, for our own good !!!!!
  18. I'm considering a Honda Element, but they aren't very....uh, manly. None the less, they seem a good compromise between fuel consumption and interior room.
  19. I drive a Toyota. It was final-assembled in Ohio. I know this because that is what that white sticker inside the door tells me. Last I read, Saturn autos were the only "almost all American-made" cars on the road. The tires and wiper-blades being the exception. This may no longer be true. Subaru's are still pieces of shit, IMO.
  20. My children will train in military-style camps, practice martial arts, march at night in the rain, learn purse-seine tactics. They will never submit to your evil shark masters.
  21. Actually, if schools taught sodomy-only (heterosexual, of course) sex-ed, the pregnancy rate would rapidly fall to....zero!
  22. Dru, your link is amusing, but why would a public school teacher have any more right to present a gay lifestyle than she would creationism? This is where your side runs into a wall. The same liberals who scream bloody murder at the thought of creationism being taught in schools are the same ones who want to push homosexual doctrine on 3rd graders and cite fictitious statistics about 10% of the population being gay. Maybe if you kept your agenda out of public schools, the religious right would be more inclined to moderate their own as it relates to education. Maybe they would even stop pulling their kids out of public schools!
  23. Can you cite any studies that demonstrate a primary focus on abstinance-only is harmful? Or just anecdote put forth by those with an agenda like yours? I think telling minors that the only sure way to avoid pregnancy and STD's is to abstain from sex is a good thing.
  24. You must drive it like a pussy.
  25. Subaru makes the Legacy, Outback and Baja in Lafayette, IN It was intended a a humorous play on words, numbnuts.
