  1. That is one scary dude. I read about it in our paper here. I didn't notice the tattoos in the B&W photo in the paper. The funny/scary thing is that this is the second time in a week that someone got caught sending meth to someone in the Stanislaus County Jail. The other was the wife of an inmate also in jail on a murder charge. Husband and wife cons. 239876 do take 235698 as your wife and 235698 do you take 239876 for your husband. I now pronounce you con and con.
  2. You can check out this site http://www.shastaavalanche.org/reports.htm for conditions or you can phone (520) 926-9613. You will have snow all the way. The freezing level this weekend is expected to be between 10,500 - 11,000 ft. Have fun. I'm taking a couple of newbies up the AG on Monday - Tuesday.
  3. It's still early in the season. Watch out for the Only game I've ever seen at Safeco I got to see the A's beat the M's
  4. Beware of all the tourons in the valley. I'll be little north if there , Sonora Pass, tomorrow. Have fun on your trips.
  5. Free fishing in CA this weekend too.
  6. The newspaper desribed the study as "the most comprehensive assessment of how the US government is at risk of being overwhelmed by the 'baby boom' generation's future healthcare and retirement costs." How and why did it becomes the governments responsibilty to pay for these things? I look at my family and my wife's family and all are doing well without nanny government having to take care of them. If I keep more of my money, then I can, and do, contribute to charities that take care of people that actually can't take care of themselves. We have become such a nation of victims that it seems no one can take care of themselves any more. We seem also to have abandoned the idea of family and neighbor helping each other because impersonal big brother government will do it for us. Spray on!
  7. I'm interested. email me dharris25@excite.com
  8. Do any of you listen to Jack Gladstone?
  9. Finishing my Junior year of college in CA. A bunch of friends hopped in their car and zoomed north for a look.
  10. Cougars have government protection in California. Quite a few years back a law was passed outlawing the hunting of mountain lions. Since then the numbers have swelled. There have even been several sightings over the last couple of years in and around towns in the central valley, many miles from what would be considered lion territory.
  11. Wow!! Not quite that close. Had one walk right by and brushed my tent at Paulina Lake in Oregon. Man he stunk. Another time I had hiked up to the ridge above Eagle Creek Campground to sit and watch out over the Columbia. As I started down the trail I heard a big racket and thought "cool, a deer crashing through the brush." That is when I saw a jet black bear ripping an old log apart. As the thought that I was up wind from him went through my mind, he turned and looked right at me. I slowly walked backward down the trail until he was out of sight. My closest contacts.
  12. It must be mine. Look at my name. Uhh. . . I had a friend leave it there for me when I head up there this summer. Uhh . . . yeah, that's the story.

    A funny site

  14. From the same movie: Gene Wilder: What was that? Marty Feldman: Werewolf. Gene: Werewolf? Marty: There wolf, there tree, there castle. Gene: Why are you talking like that? Marty: Oh, I thought you wanted to. Gene Wilder: WOW, what knockers. Teri Garr: Why thank you herr doktor.
  15. Who are those Guys? a dozen times And a little later in the same movie: Lets Jump. No. Why not? Because I can't swim. You can't swim? No! Hell, the fall will probably kill ya!
  16. Also from the Eiger Sanction, George Kennedy and Clint Eastwood just finished a climb of a spire in the American Southwest. George Kennedy: I could go for a beer about now. Clint Eastwood: Who would be stupid enough to haul beer all the way up here? George Kennedy: You would! (as he reaches into Eastwoods pack and pulls out two brews) 10 extra credit point if you can name the brand of beer they drank. Should be easy for all of the folks from the Northwest.
  17. Bar patron - "You a bounty hunter?" Stranger- "Gotta make a livin'." Clint- "Dying ain't much of a living."
  18. Uhh, tried each hint and the meassage was that the page was unavailable for viewing.
  19. Bill Nye lives in Seattle? I'll need to look him up next time I'm up that way. Vinegar volcanoes are boring. I like my demos to be more exciting. Burning magnesium between two blocks of dry ice, methane bubbles, air pressure crushing cans, etc.
  20. Several of you are right. The skin of the Hindenburg was coated with a very flammable material and that was what made it so spectacular. There is also much plastic in a car that burns very toxic, whether the car is gas or hydrogen powered. And yes, hydrogen actually wouldn't burn, it would explode! I saw a demo at a Science get together where a childs balloon filled with hydrogen was touched with a candle. Very loud and shook the entire floor of the auditorium. I have made soap bubbles in a petri dish with hydrogen and tossed a lighted match onto it. Also a pretty large bang. Even the little hydrogen generated from HCl on zinc in a test tube makes a nice pop. I am all for trying to reduce the use of fossil fuels, but still wonder about the safety of hydrogen fuel cells. Also, the creation of hydrogen is from the electrolysis of water. How much more electricity will needed to be generated to produce the hydrogen?
  21. From what Alasdair say, the satellites are probably in geo-synchronous orbits which means they are over the equator. That would explain the poor coverage in Alaska, they be gettin' low toward the horizon.
  22. For those of you who don't already know, hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water. The electricity needed for this can be generated by any number of means, from fossil fuels such as natural gas or coal to solar wind farms, etc. It would be great if fuel cells could use natural gas directly because it is more readily available. At one time the focus was on onboard reformer system to convert natural gas or methanol into hydrogen and CO2, but it now appears that the plan is to store compressed hydrogen produced in large stationary plants. As the lightest gas, it is one of the hardest to store because of the pratical impossibility of liquifying it as they do on the Space Shuttle. Instead it will be stored as a compressed gas at high pressures. There is potential danger in that. you mean like the potential danger of gasoline and match? You sure need to protect the fuel cell from rupture in an accident. See film of the Hindenburg. Hell of a BBQ, and no toxic gasses.
  23. Looks like my post is a tad late, but my Motorola phone with Verizon service has served me well in my travels up and down U.S. 97. Have also made a clear call from Santiam Pass once. In the Sierras Verizon seems to have better coverage.

WOW. That was an awesome finish, the best ever. What sport / activity isn't about adverstising now? I just ignore it.
  25. The road is plowed only as far as the visitor's center at the south entrance. Usually only plowed as far as the entrance station at the north entrance. Both make for very long approaches. Met a guy who went up Brokeoff Mt. (trailhead at south vistor's center) a week ago. The snow was very consolidated and made for easy walking. There is supposed to be a huge storm coming this weekend.
