  1. So if the person going slow in the fast lane is doing the speed limit it doesn't affect you because you're respecting the speed limit rule?
  2. an easy hike on the west side
  3. Rodney King was a little more succinct.
  4. Look at the braking hand. If loaded, this rope will go through the belay device like there is no tomorrow. Without autolocking device (like Gri-Gri), the brake hand has to be in braking position. It's the angle of the rope, which is basically useless in the technique shown. IT IS DANGEROUS! I guess you aren't into sarcasm? Not into sarcasm? A six year old video making the fun of the way americans belay?!?!
  5. The list is fine but its not really going to help much because the people who need to read it are probably not going to and the people who do read it are probably smart enough to know most of those things already. The Olympics (in my experience) are actually one of the places that seems to have a comparatively low number of people out there who shouldn't be. But keep fighting the good fight CH, you may be the reason that is so.
  6. Off, Hoodsport not Brinnon, although I'm sure your points all apply
  7. Well that certainly fits the description. Some of the stuff under the roofs there should see a bit more respect now. I wonder if the crack underneath and behind the block was visible, its been awhile since I was on that.
  8. Were held at the south end of the crag last week!
  9. June 28 last year
  10. I don't think forcing people to be civil is what the internet is all about. They should have the right to show the world what they are really like. If you want CC to be an internet guidebook like mtn proj that's fine, the tr section is very good and people are respecting that. But if you also want people to discuss contentious issues you should let them have at it. If (when) peeps get way out of line ban them publicly and state why. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater please.
  11. a cup of lard has 2000 calories!
  12. To the OP, Soloing is way more internal for me than roped climbing. If your head is not in the right place don't do it. When its right its right and when you think its not there is probably a good reason you think that way. To the winner of the Argument, Winning an argument on the internet is liking winning the special Olympics. Atta boy!
  13. It doesn't look like its very far from the highway and I seem to recall Andy saying that is how it was originally accessed. So hiking up may not be a bad alternative. However it has a rather long open hillside above and if there is still snow covering it there may be some drippage. If I head over there before the end of the month I'll check it out.
  14. I've only driven to Idaho once without the guidebook, its on the list now!
  15. A good question.
  16. +1 You just gotta remember to look around once in a while.
  17. No! Its all the fault of large government subsidized corporations!
  18. an equilateral triangle with the dangling side vertical yields a 30 degree slope. the 10 cm thing would only be accurate for 1 3 degree increment if your pole was the correct length. but it may be close enough for you
  19. Leavenworth for the ambiance, variety and generally reliable weather. Tenino for the peeps and challenges.
  20. Well if the air is really clear the tram has the best views. Palm Desert has a nice zoo with a three mile hike out the back gate with some views. I think the views of the fault are more dramatic from the west side of the valley, there are some trails going up from 74 and 111 that a hardy 6 year old may be ok with. Don't know that I'd hike up to the top of the South Astro Dome with a 6 year old but he would be able to do it and its really cool up there.
  21. Sometimes in successive posts around here! Sounds like the problem may be taken care of and the possible culprits may be getting some education. The internet at its best. And 18 new routes TYVM!
  22. Wow! That is pretty flagrant. Where are our climbing rangers when we need them?
  23. And this would be very, very bad.
  24. I would like to say I think any signage beyond the road is a very bad idea. If you can't figure out how to find something to climb maybe you ought to head back to the gym. Cairns are fine if they are not ridiculously sized and surveyors tape is almost as bad as spray paint.
