  1. Might it have something to do with people who are out of touch with reality making decisions using tax dollars? I can imagine too many people making 6 figure incomes sitting in comfortable chairs around a polished, exotic wood table in an air conditioned room (with a 'Sound and Mountains' view) nodding and smiling while some corporate mouthpiece shows them a slick PowerPoint that extolls the civic virtues of automated self-cleaning public toilets. Afterward, serious reflection via a pro vs con comparison didn't happen before the head nodding and "The 'ayes' have it." rolled through the room. Lemme guess, you are one of those dipshits who expects to get top quality talent to work for government for jack shit, then bitchs when you may them minimum and you get some slack jawed troglodyte from Tacoma who can barely spell in office? Me thinks you assume too much. Where in my post did I say government?

    Anybody know...

...what the back of that guy's t-shirt says?
  7. Was wondering the same thing. I used to skydive decades ago (with a T10 modified), right about the time the original round ParaCommanders were going rectangular. With my old chute off Monkey Face, I would've face-planted in the tuft long before it fully deployed. my first thought "NO WAY it's not high enough"
  8. A woefully inadequate list... Open Book- Tahquitz: A beautiful line DNB- Middle Cathedral, the Valley: Just about all techniques required. SW Arete, Headstone Rock- Joshua Tree: Full moon required White Punks On Dope, Voodoo Dome- Needles: Stellar climbing The Line- Lovers Leap: Firecracker Roof- Donner Summit: Did it on 4th of July Tribal Boundaries- City of Rocks The Book, Finger of Fate- SawtoothsThe hail is optional. NW Corner- NEWS: That undercling is pure fun. Full N Ridge- Mt. Stuart Ginsu, Four O'Clock Rock- Darrington ; ) S Face- the Tooth: Why not? Orbit- SCW: Beats the hell out of OS Centerfold- Index: Pure fun Centrefold- Squamish: Very heady last pitch My 'moderate' is not necessarily your moderate. Two people, on the same rope can experience the same route, at the same time, as 'easy' and 'hard'. It is a personal thing that defies common definition.
  9. I spot really cool climbing and skiing lines.
  10. I'm guessing most of you have probably already seen this, but anyway... Greg Brickner's Cascades Panoramas
  11. Seems to me that between now and July you could get out and find out how "sucky" it is kicking steps in softer boot, as opposed to relying on other peoples experiences to determine how yours will be. Based on the wide range of responses, it should be pretty obvious that each individual has their own idea of pedestrian comfort and security. That said, my trip into the southern Pickets was done wearing a 20+ year old pair of Raichle Montagnas. They worked out just fine, as would a pair of high topped hiking boots.
  12. What else would a spectre in Europe be doing? Unless, of course, you are refering to the special executive for counter intelligence, terrorism, revenge and extortion, then the question is self-explanatory.

    Tick Bite

My understanding is that the heat causes them to regurgitate the contents of their stomach before they vacate.
  14. Im no professional mountaineer, but i am somewhat of an outsider, and I have to say, no one sprays like the folks on cc. Its some of the funniest shit i have ever seen! The Padded Room regulars at TGR do. Even more so.
  15. Ah, the Big Wally... Believe it or not that pack has seen some major abuse, yet it doesn't look like it. It will probably outlast your knees. I'm using an older Mountainsmith alpine pack for my cragging pack now. It's got a more comfortable suspension system and I can adjust the volume for various sizes of loads. I'll keep those beers in mind.
  16. I did a tank dive in that hole on the Sky just east of Index, the one everybody goes to with the flat rocks to hang out on. The depth was about 30 feet when we did it. There are railroad rails down there that are wrapped around boulders by the force of the current and are bright metal from being sandblasted. Lots of good-sized fish as well.
  17. Kenny Wayne Shepherd's While We Cry on Ledbetter Heights. Speaking of Ledbetter, there's Mike McCready's short but sweet Yellow Ledbetter lick on Lost Dogs. One of these might fit the bill...
  18. Hendrix Born Under A Bad Sign Pretty much the whole 7:38 is a guitar solo.
  19. Average at best: climbing rock (alpine, cragging, aid, etc.) peak bagging hiking/scrambling lift-served telemark skiing backcountry telemark skiing ungroomed nordic touring groomed track nordic skiing mt biking SCUBA diving free diving sea kayaking woodworking (boxes, chests, furniture, finish carpentry) wood collecting (packrat actually) landscaping/terraforming
  20. WTF!?! You can't see the pictures? I've checked with two different browsers and they are showing up on my screen. Anyway, I thought these were some pretty cool pictures... http://www.mazm.com/2007/06/05/6.snow-pictures-made-by-microscope.html

    814 days

303 days, 1 hour, 8 minutes, 10.5 seconds P.S. Pizaro had a hand in doing in the Incas. Hernan Cortez had a thing for Aztec wealth. Mayan civilization declined before either conquistidor entered the picture. P.P.S. Some historians say the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012 is merely the end of a cycle of about 5000 years (according to Mayan belief) and the beginning of a new one. There is no record that they believed the world would end in 2012
  23. I'm thinking perhaps the wrangler forded the channel by wading? Judging by the color of the water, there's some sediment transport going on and possibly large enough materials to need protection from rollers.
  24. I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that.
