  6. i honestly don't think that if the us suddenly announced it was going to treat all prisoners via geneva convention that al-qaeda would stop beheading hostages. but it might go a ways toward reclaiming some moral high ground and swaying other parts of the arab world, or at least europe.

  8. It was smoke. We could see a thick blanket of smoke at about 6000' all thru the Fraser Canyon in the morning then the wind shifted and it all blew back up the canyon to Lillooet.

  16. as far as i can tell the only difference between your recommended rack and my huge rack are #3 and #4 camalot, tri cams and rps. you would want the cams for the lower pitches of the line we took, and i had tricams and rps in where you had nothing after your pins on the crux, don... not to just to clarify. i always do end up taking lots of gear though.
  17. 7 cm = 2.5 inches more or less it did say in an old feature in On The Edge mag that his ape index was +7... +7 cm. Maybe he shrunk!!!

  20. i seem to recall a good pink tricam after climbing about 3 meters out from the belay at the top of the diagonal crack... and some rp tomfoolery, but no pins. whatever works good to hear the arete goes without bolts
  21. All too often the people i have encountered who have said " I am looking for a mentor" are sketchy to the point of being scary. These people are not just inexperienced so much as dangerously incompetent. Also, they have no concept of the climbing partnership as a two-way relationship. They are looking for an experienced climber to spend time with them with no regard for what the experienced climber will get out of it. These are the people who guides were made for. "The client is trying to kill the guide, the other clients, and himself". After being "mentored" by a succession of more-experienced dangerous incompentents for several years, the climber will become capable of endangering larger groups of people, eg. as a scoutmaster or member of a rural search and rescue team. I have climbed with climbers both way more and way less experienced with me and not once did i ever utter, or have uttered to, the mentor phrase. More than anything else if someone says to you " I am looking for a MENTOR!" that is a signal to get the hell out as soon as possible. For some reason people who get it in their heads that the solution to their problems is to find " a Mentor" are dangerous time bombs who are relatively incapable of becoming decent/safe/experienced climbers. I don't know why this is true, but it is. Forewarned is forearmed.
