  1. yes. beckey is known for suddenly bailing in the middle of climbs during perfect weather - listening to his bad feelings and going down. sometimes he's wrong, and this has caused splits with partners over the years as when he wanted to bail and galen rowell refused to bail, went on and soloed the route they had been planning to do. but hey beckey is still alive at 82 so it seems like a viable strategy.
  2. you forgot the mr. clean earrings and laundry soap!
  3. pp - only on a geology field trip. but you aren't saying that route is actually in wa are you? only that it is a wa climber. the vegetation in the picture looks more east-coasty to me too. if it is actually in wa say so!
  4. thats gotta be at the red river gorge or something... there is no rock like that in the pnw
  5. i don't like the rail as much as the version that goes straight up to where the rail bends up i got to my left foot on the rail and going for the rock over but my pad looked pretty dinky down below and i chickened out. with another pad or two and a spotter it should be ok...hint hint shouldnt you be in squamish right now??
  6. yes hmmm left hand huh? i have been chucking the right hand up. guess i will have to try switching hands!
  7. hey breezy did you read this thread?
  8. yes. you cannot control an avalanche, serac fall, rockfall, sudden storms etc. you can only be aware of such conditions developing and attempt to minimize your exposure to them. if this means going home then do it. the only problem is if conditions take a turn for the worse when you are already committed you are screwed. i was reading twight's exteeeem book and my room mate asked me what i thought of it. i said it was pretty inspiring and she said "I don't support it. I think someone's gonna get killed." of course she was a sport climber but you get the drift...
  9. if you really want to avoid accidents the safest thing to do is to quit climbing.
  10. bump all you lib ridge bound climbers reevaluating your plans and heading to squamish, take note.
  11. or maybe it's to do with the fact we are nice country and well-liked by the world. no one hates us!
  12. i don't see how increased corporate control of oil is supposed to translate into cheaper gas for consumers. it's all about increased profit for shareholders not some sort of socialistic subsidization of the american motorist!
  13. you know where that sloping rail warm up is at the same boulders as goldfinger? its the layback problem that faces across to the rail next to the stupid dug-out sit start cave.
  14. i don't have any room in my brain for newspaper it's full of guidebooks!
  15. "do or not do there is no try"
  16. you get extra swimming hole bragging rights for mooning hwy 99 tourons with your hairy ass as you skinny dip in browning lake at murrin

  18. Tell you what. Why don't you send some Canadian hockey player/logger/redneck down here to represent for you. I'll break his fucking neck, and then you can all sit down and be humble. suuuuuuuuuuure
  19. well only 20 to go then... considering this is like the second move off the ground that should take a whole 10 minutes more + 30 minutes tips recovery

  22. what is the most tries you have ever made on some climb before you got it? i am nearing 80 on this stupid boulder problem i can huck the dyno but i can't keep my feet on and i swing out and lose the layback EVERY SINGLE TIME i need some distel power or something so i can see the beta of someone actually doing it.
  23. not to mention the super secret plan to sink florida by having all the fat quebec tourists run to the same side of thye state at the same time and jump up and down until it capsizes
