got to agree with that, so much of this is what experienced hikers/climbers/outdoor enthusiasts take as simple common sense. You should put a question in the very beginning of the survey regarding years/amount of experience in order to help quantify the survey takers knowledge and help in the way a response is interpenetrated. Example ---- section one, question #3 of the survey .. I myself would not pay attention to info posted regarding the topic of clothing and or self-rescue techniques, because I've been doing this for 30+ years .. if I check "never" how will the FS interpret my response? I believe things such as way points and mountain features are good solid basics for navigation purposes, similar to the map of the Muir Snowfield at Paradise ... however that assumes people actually know how to use them. Topics such as providing upper mountain conditions upon your return, while useful to some, again could lead the ignorant into a false sense of security .. what I determine safe is based on personally knowledge and abilities gained over 30+ years of being in the outdoors and climbing. What works for me may not work for the next guy. Likewise for the "Mountain Safety" topic .. I can just see some bonehead looking at a diagram of a z-pulley setup and convincing him/herself that they are capable of setting one up The remote registration would definitely be useful for the north half of the mountain .. however what is the tax burden to implement such a service? Quasar heads are aluminum .. right ??? If so you might also try placing it in the freezer for a while and then over a heating duct and warming it up .. the aluminum will conduct heat faster than the steel bolt

It may be easier to find what is often referred to as an "easy out" .. made specifically for backing out screw/bolts with striped or broken heads screw extractor

I've played with it a couple of times in the store ... nice idea .. however I didn't like how, when slid all the way down the shaft toward the spike, the clamp lever ends up in the palm of your hand .. the lever is fairly large and adds significantly to the volume of the shaft in you hand. It will clamp in both direction (up or down) but flipping it down and away from your palm means sliding it up away from the spike a bit .. it would work great in "low dagger"
