  1. Yeah, wait'll you get married, and you start taking a shit when there's someone standing in the same room as you , brushing their teeth
  2. First of all Klenke, wasted word alert, you create a loop, there is no "essentially" necessary there. Second, if you put knots in the ends of the rope you also may end up with snagging problems. Also, a bit of complacency can end up snagging a forgotten knot in the anchors above (which won't be a problem with tying the ends together). Though you make a good point (about the loop), I'm looking at this thread and Mr. Doo' is basically saying, "be extra extra careful". So, in that vein, I added my extra extra careful tip. One of those little knots could easily squirm through your device. You'd be surprised how easily, especially if the ropes are wet.
  3. Minx, Your procedure is a good one. I try to do it at all rapells, not just the ones I am feeling squirrelly about. Like Iain said, most people stop being scared about rapping, but that doesn't make it less dangerous. Sounds like your/our procedure wouldn't have made any difference on the Vantage accident though .
  4. What about tieing the rope ends together? That makes sure they are even. Plus, separate knots on each rope end could possibly squirm through your rap device. If you are going to be all extra safe and stuff, then you might do this step.

    My tale of woe

    too bad about your Bibler
  9. Probably not singled out, but they're definitely using her as a tool to show how we're getting tough on those stock swindlers. The real meat is those Enron guys, and they do seem to be tightening the noose on those guys. With regard to Waksal, did you hear that the drug that got turned down by the FDA (the event that led to him abusing the insider trading), now has been approved and it's looking like it'll be a big seller! I wonder if Waksal'll be a rich(er) man after he gets out of jail or if he sold all his stock?
  10. By the way, in case anybody didn't get my post... MARTHA IS TAKING THE FALL FOR ENRON you Martha-haters are being played... (maybe they can go after Barney next )
  11. But you only have to worry about getting in trouble for securites fraud if you are a well-known strong woman that everyone secretly loathes and the public is all up in arms about stock swindles and such. And even then, you still probably won't get in trouble if your husband is president of the United States.
  12. Hey Fender, germs are everywhere. Sweet dreams. I went on a hike a while back and forgot my tp, so I borrowed my buddy's. Anyway, he has a little bottle of that waterless germ-killer "purifier" stuff in his "kit". I thought, "hey, pretty good idea". But then realized that you are mostly protecting just the other people in your party, but are still open to getting someone else's poo germs in your gorp, on your rope, on your pipe, unless of course they all have the little bottle o' Purell too. It's sorta like a shovel on a ski trip, or being able to escape the belay, good safety items, for the community but not necessarily for yourself.
  13. Jeezus, I would never take my kids to Vantage. There's just too much rockfall there. The first time I ever went (roped) rock climbing was at Pinnacles. I pulled off a whole bunch of rock. I didn't know that you had to be careful about that kind of thing. I also didn't know instinctively to yell, "rock" when I did it. Just missed creaming some guy. Some of the rock hit his foot. He was really pissed. Thus, I think newbies at Vantage = bad idea.
  14. Yah, well it seems pretty weak that he parades the 9/11 shit on his TV adds, to emphasize his "leadership", but then hides from people trying to get to bottom of what actually happened. Fine leadership there. He is doing what any sitting president would do, using his privilege, to avoid making his presidency and the office of the president look bad. That part's sorta excusable, or at least understandable. But it just grates to have him pulling that card while at the same time parading the 9/11 dead on TV as a reason to re-elect him. He has no shame.
  15. Maybe some of those people want it both ways. Surely Bush wants it both ways too. He wants to use 9/11 to further his political ambitions, yet at the same time wants to ignore it with respect to the commission to investigate what went wrong. I don't get a chance to vote for those victims that you are calling hypocrites Peter, but I do get to decide whether I'm gonna vote for that sleazeball Bush. Clear choice.
  16. Cat Burglar at Index? Normally I wouldn't bat an eye, but this is coming from the human guidebook
  17. Exfoliation Dome, Jacob's Ladder (Darrington)
  18. Had some excitement on Devil's Tower, taking forever to do the Durrance route, then getting the ropes stuck on the way down. First time lead climbing on our own (without "mentor") on our honeymoon at Smith. Super slab, giant pack, one set of QD's a set of stoppers and 3 cams. Catch is, I was convinced that you couldn't fiddle around while climbing to place the piece, then clip in the draw, so insisted that we put all pieces on draws before climbing , thus only 6 or 8 pieces. Well, we did the first two pitches, then luckily my wife convinced me it was stupid to keep going to we bailed and didn't die.
  19. Rage does a pretty cool cover of that Cypress Hill "To Kill a Man" too. Al Jourgensen was on NPR the other day condemning some T-shirt put out by some trendy store that says "Voting is for old people". I think people are taking this upcoming election pretty seriously eh? Oh yeah, another rockin tune is "Streetsweeper" by Unsane or is it "Vandal X"? It was on some Sub-Pop singles club single.
  20. Static Point has some pretty stoney names "Fluorescent Green Crab Traverse" "Spencer's Spaceport" For shear volume of disgusting names you can't beat the Bill Robins legacy at Vantage sample
  21. If you do the N Ridge, you can camp on near the N Ridge and though you still need a permit, it is easier to get than Boston Basin. I don't think there are any quotas. When we did it, we were able to self-register for that area. Also, as the rules were then (1999?) If you camped out of BB the first night, you could camp anywhere (BB for example) the next night.
