[TR] Mt Shuksan - White Salmon Glacier 1/28/2007
AllYouCanEat replied to skibum1087's topic in North Cascades
I haven't been up there this year, but would guess that it is more of a snowslope than anything else. At worst there is a steeper section just before you reach the ridge on the right, maybe 10-15 ft. You'll probably need pickets if you want to set protection. From about now until spring its usually skiable terrain of maybe max 50 degrees. You're other option is summer. Its a fun glacier hike and scramble up to the summit via the sulfide glacier. -
Whenever anything bad happens, people look to make it so it never happens. Often law is used. I think that this is a poor way to regulate people, and lessen bad things. The only way to do that is to educate. I would rather see the money wasted on law designated for education.

Nice pics Ross!!!

Your pictures remind me of when I went up that route in feb a few years ago. Lots of ice chunks and a good wind to send them down on my head. Good times Would've liked to have a nice soft filling for skiing, but no luck. A good climb at least. Thanks for the photos. Looks like there's less snow than if feb 2004.

Adams is a great mountain!!! Here's a wonderful place for access info, etc. http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/winter/recreation-areas/mt-adams.shtml Sorry, haven't been up there recently. Let me know how it looks up there if you go

The NW Rib on Mount Blum in Winter. Short day, lost trail equals no fun at all. Sky wrote a funny TR. It's a good way to remember it cause it wasn't that funny at the time. http://staff.washington.edu/skykilo/Blum/Blum.html

You see I've got it all figured out, death isn't a racquet. Without risk, what's life about? but a full metal jacket.

Still wishing everyone best of luck. One comment. They keep saying that the "Y" is meant and 'yes, I am here'. That's not what I think it meant. Wouldn't that be an arrow pointing out that they left and which direction they may have gone?

I hope that these guys make it out. I can imagine being stuck up there, and that's a difficult thing. My heart's out to them that all ends well. One thought, and just a thought and speculaton, which may or may not be helpful. Most think that the guy that is hurt or maybe hurt is alone. This is based off a phone call where he said, "The others went to look for help." I could be wrong here (I haven't read everything about this), but that simply could've meant, since they are near the summit, that they climbed up or down a little to scout things out, and returned to the cave. After that no cell coverage again. Storm comes in and they decide to stick it out.

Cool, that looks like a scrappy creek, and one of the guys going C1 too. Schweet. I love creeks like that.

Cool. I just went there for the first time a few weeks ago. Thanks for the photos. -
That's awesome. What a cliffhanger ending. It sure would be cool to ski down there!!! I'd be all over that.

I noticed your blog has snow measurement information. Where do you get that? Is the paradise telementry being kept up? It would be nice if mount rainier would beat baker for most snow which is why I'm hoping someone is keeping it up.

This thread reminds me of line from Aztec by Gary Jennings. It says, You tell me then that I must perish Like the flowers that I cherish Nothing remembered of my fame Nothing remembered of my name But the gardens I planted still are young The songs I sang still are sung In light of that, I think the best any of us can do in life is leave behind something we are proud of in death and not necessarily a thing. It could be a memory of who you were leading to inspiration or courage for others? Any number of things really.

middle fork snoqualmie road- just how bad is it?
AllYouCanEat replied to pete_a's topic in Alpine Lakes
Hey, Pete, i did a 9 day traverse through the area a few weeks ago and may have some info for you depending on where exactly you are headed. Best camps, etc. Send me an e-mail. As for the road, I don't know. i will be heading up to Ivanhoe lake, so I'll be finding out how it is along with you. My brother has been up there before, and he said that it is slow going but doable. -

Baker: Sherman Pk Ice Avalanche 7/25/06
AllYouCanEat replied to John_Scurlock's topic in North Cascades
I skied it a few years ago. Here is a shot looking in the crater and one looking up to the top of sherman. Crazy looking avi. Wow. Catbirdseat: Here is a shot, and I know John has better ones. -
Adams gets climbed by young people often. I remember when I first climbed it at 6 that there was also a 7 yr old up there. A few weeks ago I took my 8 year old neice and her skis to the top. It's a great mountain to learn on Congrats to your daughter. I don't see too many little girls in the mountains.

I learned that jumping out of a plane isn't that bad once you've jumped out of the plane.
