G-spotter Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I am told that the road is now fixed up and driveable to the Slesse Memorial trailhead. Quote
JasonG Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Thanks for the update. All the way to the Rexford TH as well? Quote
Rad Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I am told that the road is now fixed up and driveable to the Slesse Memorial trailhead. Â No more water bars? Quote
G-spotter Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 Still some water bars but 2wd/hc. Not sure about Rexford TH but it's only a km past Slesse TH. Quote
BrettS Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I assume that the pocket glacier is still around? Any updates on its status? Thanks. Quote
mountainsloth Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 With the above average snowfall, cool and somewhat wet conditions the pnw is experiencing I bet the pocket will be there for most of the summer. Quote
mmeyers Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) With the above average snowfall, cool and somewhat wet conditions the pnw is experiencing I bet the pocket will be there for most of the summer. Â Interesting. I had speculated the opposite, since the high snow accumulation was higher than the glacier, and it was a really warm spring. As it's been a little more wet lately, I figured that would help it slide off. (but what I lack in experience I make up for in wild speculation and theory, so there's that). G-spotter Posted July 14, 2016 Author Posted July 14, 2016 There's still snow at the propellor, as well as ice. Quote
Todd Anderson Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Any update on the pocket glacier? Low temps have been well above freezing for a while now.... Quote
G-spotter Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 Here's a photo link from July 25 that I found on FB Â https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOV7v_KMLVifYOF4_-GF0aJnAHI1c1bKZd20MCSaXZVsIr4AAFkgunXzb0XeTfN0g/photo/AF1QipPox_6XF29ugD8rWvykYClpSWCE41u4lc33TghH?key=NHk3TEQ2OFY3UHZ5XzhhbmtqWmpwSTVoSFRleEln Quote
Todd Anderson Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Awesome photo, thanks. I had heard a friend of a friend did Slesse last weekend (solo?) and had a "super chill" glacier crossing, but I wasn't sure if he crossed the pocket glacier or the other one. Quote
sgray Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Thanks for posting the picture. Has anyone indeed been in the last days or weeks and climbed? Â Not having been into the basin and dealt with the pocket glacier, I also wonder for those who have, how does it (in the picture) look to you? Quote
G-spotter Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 The North Slesse (access to North Rib) looks really good right now. The Pocket Glacier has seracs at the bottom and otherwise isn't too broken but could slide off at any time. Frankly I'd choose the North Rib over the Buttress right now. Quote
G-spotter Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 Also here's a side view of the Pocket Gl that I took from Rexford area on Sunday July 31. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Can you still make it over to the Bone Cairn? Quote
Steph_Abegg Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Unfortunately, looks like it might be a long while.... Photo taken 3 days ago (Aug 12): Quote
marc_leclerc Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Good shot steph! I was there yesterday, still there. Looks passable to me but likely not a great idea, best to wait till a bit more falls off. Â Brette and I skirted the left side on slab and under the upper blocks in similar condish a couple years back. But it required some shoulder stands to get from one slab to another, which was actually a lot of fun. Â Â E pillar and Navigator wall are good to go! Quote
G-spotter Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 I heard that as of yesterday it was much smaller and what was left was lower down on the slab. Quote
marc_leclerc Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 We watched the glacier slide three days ago from chinese puzzle wall. It was pretty f---ing awesome! NE butt should be fairly accessible now. Quote
Katze Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Thanks for the update. This has been on my list for years, but I have never been up there. Any info on where to find water? With the snow gone I assume there is none on the mountain? Thanks! Quote
