allison
Hey I am waxing a snowboard for the first time today, and finding it to be a major pain in the neck. First I got way too much wax on and had to scrape and re-iron, and now I'm having a hard time getting even coverage as the iron is not as wide as the board. Am I doing something wrong, or does it just take a little practice? Also I have a standard scraper, and am not sure I am going to get a good scrape with a tool that is narrower than the board. Hopefully I can clean any striations in the wax up in the buffing phase.

allthumbs
Just do the best you can. You're not building a piano.
jon
I'll help you out here. Go to the garage, grab your Skil saw and a power drill. Take the bindings off. Place the board on two saw horses lengthwise. Now using the Skil saw cut the board length wise. Now take the bindings and mount one on each length of the board, close to center. No more problems. COL._Von_Spanker
You shouldn't need a scraper that's as wide as the board. It sounds like you have the basic idea, at little practice should clear everything up. The trick is the iron handling when you are spreading the wax. allison
Um, trust me, this snowboard is not my property. I think they are kind of, well, weird. I waxed my skis first and it was a snap. Worked on the snowboard a little more, not perfect, maybe less wax and a little more patience with the iron next time.
allthumbs
did you get the pleats straight?
freeclimb9
It's no big deal to overwax. It'll get buffed off in a run, or two. Put it on thick and hot.
allison
Of course I got the pleats straight! I prefer a very thin coating of wax on my skis, is it less critical on a snowboard? Maybe I am just finicky that way!

COL._Von_Spanker
Isn't the amount of wax more a function of the scraping than the initial application?
allison
If you overapply, sometimes you need to scrape once, iron again, and then scrape again. That's what I did with the snowboard, and what I had to do a couple of times when I first started doing my skis.
