kevbone Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 New Question: If you were going to learn one song, in it's entirety, for the electric guitar, that would make you as close to a "complete" guitar player as possible, what would it be? Not possible to learn only one song to be complete.....but i felt complete when I learned to play this..... [video:youtube] Quote

Choada_Boy Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Good suggestions. I was thinking something along the lines of this one. It seems to have a bit of everything. KaskadskyjKozak Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 I think La Villa Strantiago is a better piece to learn as a band - the guitar parts get sparse in parts of the song. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Crossroads would get you to "Blues Jam Master", but is that enough? Another one I've been working on, a bit off from the "complete guitarist" concept but still fun to play: [video:youtube] Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 2112, OTOH... YYZ is a great jam, BTW. The solo is challenging but very doable. Quote
Skeezix Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Alright...since you specified electric guitar, and since tastes seem to run heavily in favor of shred style playing on this forum, I'll give you this: [video:youtube] Quote

If I were ever able to play it in my lifetime, I would be amazed with myself. I saw Rush perform it live this summer and was blown away by how good it sounded. Quote
Doug Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 The SG's a 1967. With the dimarzio in the lead position it screams. The acoustic is just what I play for fun Quote
Skeezix Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Nice Gibson. Good for this, among other things... [video:youtube] Quote
Choada_Boy Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Here's some Porn... The Stack: Pedalboard v2.0. Still "Tier I", Tier II coming soon Quote
Skeezix Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Adidas Samba K's are very good for precision pedalboard button pushing on stage. Quote
cynicalwoodsman Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Adidas Samba K's are very good for precision pedalboard button pushing on stage. I got a pair of purple canvas low top Vans at a flea market in Denver in '96. They're awesome box stompers. Quote

Doug Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 gotta be careful with the shoes if you're playing the blues. overheard in a blues club in Chicago "hey, those look like $100.00 tennis shoes! You can't possibly have the blues! I'll be you're even good at math!" Nice shoes ruin your cred! Quote
cynicalwoodsman Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 100 clams? Damn that's a lotta money. I don't even play tennis! Quote
Choada_Boy Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I'm on a waiting list for one of these: Musicom Lab EFX MKIII Pedalboard Controller Quote
Skeezix Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I can remember the chords, the lyrics, and the timing of one or two foot pedal buttons, but that's my limit! Quote
cynicalwoodsman Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I've bummed around this site for almost 8 years yet almost never climb. Suddenly a gtr thread appears and I'm on my way to poobah status and playing more than I have in years. Go figure. Thanks for getting me off the couch, boys. It's good therapy. Long live the guitar thread! Quote

When I used to climb at the NRG, we'd see folks coming in from OhiO all the time. Musta been an easy drive for them, or maybe they were just super-stoked to be climbing at such a great place as the New. Quote

I had every intention of taking more trips by now when I moved here to be with my gf 3 yrs ago, but work took 2 yrs to find, and the job is a 52 mile rt, and fuel is expensive, days go by, months go by, blah blah blah I have many excuses both relevant and couch-inspired. If life remains on the upswing as it has this last year, I'll be back in the cascades by summer, I'll be climbing without having to plan and save for 6 months to do it, and life will be good again. kevbone Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Welcome to the guitar thread CW...... I just spent 8 hours in the studio yesterday recording nylon string guitar jams. I have to find a way to post some on this site. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I played for 20 minutes yesterday without crippling shoulder pain for the first time in two months. Bone: Have you found Soundcloud yet? Quote
