If regressives are so concerned about public services, why aren't they going after the bloated salaries of corporate America that got bailed out by the taxpayer?

Posturing hypocrites!

If the benefit of paying more than necessary to have people sit in booths and sell tickets is to redistribute wealth and promote the consumption of consumer staples - why not automate the process as much as possible, divide the total annual savings by 5000, and send the 5,000 poorest families in the state a check funded by the savings each year?

on paper that may be the best solution, but the people being taxed would bitch endlessly about the deadbeats not doing anything, and the people getting the checks do in fact need something to be doing to feel a sense of fulfilment and out of the streets stirring up shit.

Clearly then the solution is to cut the pay in half and offer full-time ticket-taking work to twice as many people - thereby achieving twice the wealth-distributing utility of arrangement at precisely the same cost!

You could also achieve the same thing much more efficiently and productively, without distorting the cost of government, giving the public sector a reputation for waste and inefficiency, etc by channeling the same money into an inflation-indexed negative income tax for the working poor.

what about them rich people? a better solution would be to take all the money from the top 1% (which holds approx. 34% of the wealth of the whole country) and make it RAIN on the the rest of the population. since we're talking redistribution this would definitely the most efficient.

Seems to this country boy that targeting middle class workers is a shitheel's game in a society with an already dire wealth concentration problem. Tax the rich it's really not that hard.

Jayb's suggestion of turning each middle class job into 2 below poverty line jobs is par for a movement that favors cruelty and punishment over kindness and incentive.

Gotta wonder about a movement bent on destroying the middle class and the liberal values that created it. Seems like we need to start dealing with this, our greatest threat to national security, with a more appropriately harsher response.

What - exactly - is kind about cutting social services for the least vulnerable and shunting the tax revenues to a bunch of politically connected insiders who are way better off?

Her latex gloves say it all: "we'll take generous helpings of your tax money, but we don't want to get our hands dirty."

Strange, but other than in health care you just don't see latex gloves in the private sector. I guess public employees belong to a whole 'nuther mentality.

One of the first things the National Ski Patrol talks about for Outdoor Emergency Care is Body Substance Isolation. Ski up to an injured skier and put gloves on. It's the number one way to keep the victim from infecting you, or you from infecting them. Goggles are number two followed by a breathing mask.

If you're constantly in contact with lots of people gloves might not be a bad idea.

Santa wears rubber gloves .

Looks like that man deserves $80,000/year and a pension w/medical for the rest of his life! And his union buddies in Oly 'gunna git it for him, mmhmmmm. While the truly poor and infirm languish, and the private sector is hung out to dry. Merry Christmas Happy Holidays suckkaz; I'm a state emplooyeee!
