Illegal and unethical?! Isn't that exactly what makes American health care great? Quote
j_b Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 How Bad Is Health Care Fraud? 23 Corporate Crime Reporter 35(9), September 14, 2009 The federal government says health care fraud hovers around three percent of all health care expenditures. Do the math. Health care expenditures per year: $2 trillion. Three percent of $2 trillion: $60 billion. Not chump change. But Malcolm Sparrow says the number is probably much higher. Sparrow is a professor of public management at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School. He believes the number could be as high as 20 percent. Or even 30 percent. That would be more like $400 billion. Or $600 billion. “How much is being lost? We don’t know,” Sparrow told Corporate Crime Reporter. “We should know. The government knows how to measure it, but is avoiding doing it. The news would be too bad.” [..] “It is in the Republican agenda to emphasize fraud losses out of control. This is bizarre. And what is odd, they manage not to say that it is the industry that is submitting these false claims. They are putting the emphasis on the fact that the government doesn’t seem able to control the problem.” http://www.corporatecrimereporter.com/sparrow091409.htm Quote
Nitrox Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Man induces gall bladder attack to get faster medical treatment Self-induced attack A Calgary man tells CTV's Reg Hampton about inducing a gall bladder attack to get faster medical treatment. Updated: Tue Nov. 30 2010 18:02:31 ctvcalgary.ca A Calgary man who suffers from gall stone attacks ate 15 potato skins loaded with dressing to trigger an attack and get faster hospital treatment. He said the health care sysem is so broken that he was forced to take drastic action, and that this was his doctor's idea. The man, who doesn't want to be identified to protect his doctor, said tests earlier this month showed his gall bladder had to come out. His doctor recommended that it should be removed within a month because the attacks were so painful. But when the man called his surgery, he was told they didn't have surgery dates until late spring. So he took matters into his own hands and ate the potato skins, which sent him to hospital with an attack and surgery booked within days. "With my gall bladder as bad as it was, even the smallest amount of salad dressing would do me in, and I'd be in agony for hours," he said. "So it didn't take much but I knew if I was going to be going in with an attack, that I'd better make it worthwhile." The man told his story on the same day the province unveiled a new five-year plan for health care, which promises to reduce wait times for surgeries, quicker access to cancer treatment and more continuing care options. http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20101130/CGY_gall_attack_101130/20101130/?hub=CalgaryHome Quote

Peter_Puget Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 Turns out those rascally French Canadians madea movie about this several years ago! movie link Of course evil capitalists come to the rescue!( egg chips and beans! ) Press release: TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 8, 2010) - MediBid – The Marketplace for Medicine® is now making it possible for Canadian patients who can't afford long waiting lists to access the care that they need. MediBid is the one place where Canadians can access surgeons and facilities from around the world at a price they can afford. "I want Canadians to know that US health care is affordable, often 80% less than what you might think," said Ralph Weber, MediBid's founder and CEO. "MediBid is a tool for patients to obtain the real prices for health care from a free market system." Weber has been helping Canadian patients for over 13 years. As a Canadian with extensive experience in the US and Canadian healthcare sectors, he knows the effects of a long wait for surgery all too well. Time and time again he has seen his clients struggle with the abrupt change of lifestyle that comes with an injury, followed by long waits for treatment causing secondary medical conditions. "In many areas of care, too many people still wait too long," said Lynn McLeod, the chair of Ontario's Health Quality Council, on the release of its fifth annual report on wait times for health services. Now, with the launch of MediBid.ca, Weber's dream of helping thousands of patients has come true. "MediBid was founded on five principles: Access, Quality, Choice, Value and Privacy," said Weber. And timely access is what Canadians need, according to the Fraser Institute. On Friday, Niels Veldhuis of the Fraser Institute and co-author of the annual Tax Freedom Day report said, "We're paying among the highest amounts in the world for our health-care system that's actually delivering quite a poor service in terms of lengthy waiting lists, in terms of access to technology, access to a family doctor." Patients on MediBid.ca can review bids and compare credentials, experience, and quality from a pool of thousands of physicians without the price being inflated by any third parties. Patients deal directly with doctors, not a third party facilitator. Some medical tourism facilitators raise prices, which has caused an inflated sense of what the real cost is for care in the US. "Often, procedures in the US are billed at an inflated price. For example, knee replacement surgery can be billed as high as $50,000 USD, but can be obtained at cost for as low as $12,000 USD through MediBid.ca," said Weber. "MediBid is all about value. If you weigh-in the expense of lost income from missed work while on a waiting list, the value in paying out of pocket is apparent." MediBid is now giving Canadian patients the same immediate access that has been available to US patients since MediBid.com opened in January of 2010. Help for our Northern brothers! Quote

Re that Montreal doctor, he shouldn't go to jail - he should be given a fine big enough to serve a message. There is no place in health care for this crap. Hey, brother Evil: From The Manitoba Herald by Clive Runnels The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified this week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration. The results of the recent election is prompting an exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray, and to agree with Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck. Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal-rights activists and Unitarians crossing their fields at night. "I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota. The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry. He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken. When I said I didn't have any, he left before I even got a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?” In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them. He then installed loudspeakers that blared Rush Limbaugh across the fields. "Not real effective," he said. "The liberals still got through and Rush annoyed the cows so much that they wouldn't give any milk.” Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons and drive them across the border where they are simply left to fend for themselves." A lot of these people are not prepared for our rugged conditions," an Ontario border patrolman said. "I found one carload without a single bottle of imported drinking water. They did have a nice little Napa Valley Cabernet, though." When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about plans being made to build re-education camps where liberals will be forced to drink domestic beer and watch NASCAR races. In recent days, liberals have turned to ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have been disguised as senior citizens taking a bus trip to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans in powdered wig disguises, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior citizens about Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney to prove that they were alive in the '50s. "If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we become very suspicious about their age" an official said. Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and are renting all the Michael Moore movies. "I really feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them." an Ottawa resident said. "How many art-history majors does one country need?" Quote
