billcoe Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Yup, if he wants that close to full retail, he should just return his "gift" to REI. "She". If "she" wants full retail. Jess is Jessica it appears. I suppose it's nice to start out with too much carp, most of us start out with 3 hexes and have to work up to too much gear in a long process which takes years. "Honey, lest give Jessica some climbing crap for Christmas!" "OK - grab 6 of them Petzl Attaches off the rack there, 3 of them and 3 of those....."....huh? I don't get it. Bug Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Banter is what we do. But I would prefer to see this thread dedicated to getting stolen gear back to Redpoint Climbers Supply. Let Redpoint look at the gear and see if it looks familiar. If this is suspicious but legit then leave it alone imo. Quote
pindude Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) As Off White seems to imply, it looks like the price hangtags are REI's, but I'm not certain. I recall Redpoint's hangtags weren't SKU'd such as these. Agreed that price is way too high, and goes against the maxim of selling used gear at roughly "one-third to two-thirds of original retail value, depending on condition." [Edit to add: Even new climbing gear, sold outside of a legitimate retailer such as somebody on craigslist, is considered used.] And it would be REALLY GOOD if RedpointSupply responded to keep us up-to-date, and deny or confirm if any of these items being sold are his, including what is upthread. I sent a PM to him more than a week ago, but no response. Not sure how much he can be helped with him being incommunicado on his own thread. Edited February 3, 2010 by pindude Quote
111 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 i talked with the lady, and although a little tweaky, she had a semi legit sounding story. She got into weird specifics that would be really random to have been made up. just a weird present from a far off family member to her and her sisters. Sounds like this ad has gotten her a lot of attention and nastygrams from teh interwebs Whatever Quote

Good point, perhaps the thing to do is send info on suspicious stuff to the Redpoint guy via email rather than have a validity gossipfest here. This is the email address for Redpoint: contact@redpointclimbing.com Quote

Off_White Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Oh please, feel free to start any number of Spray threads about sketchy ads on Craigslist, I agree that its an amusing topic, but it was correctly pointed out by the spiritual leader of Spray that this thread is about helping out Redpoint catch the thief/get their gear back, and I don't think Eric reads up on all the threads he's posted everywhere about it, so its more effective to send your discoveries to him directly.
