lazyalpinist Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Alpental I+IV are running water. From my crappy binoculars, Humpback looks blue and under snow. But, hard to tell for sure the health of it. Quote
laurel Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Sketchy and I went back to Hubba Hubba last Sunday. We did climb it after it stopped doing this: [img:center]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4020/4294631976_8fcae28963.jpg[/img] It rained all Sunday night (and a dog stole all of our bacon and eggs) so we went home Monday. Pilchuck71 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 It rained all Sunday night (and a dog stole all of our bacon and eggs) so we went home Monday. That sucks! Quote
johnson Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) We had great weather and conditions on HH just the day before you were there. Hero ice too. Sorry to rub it in. Edited January 22, 2010 by johnson Quote
laurel Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Hero ice, is that when the ice stays on the route? Quote
genepires Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 anyone have a good idea if the ice in icicle canyon is still there? Did it all melt away? thanks gene Quote
maxhasson Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I drove up the canyon on Wednesday, turned around at Barney's Rubble due to fog and darkness. Careno Left is pretty much gone, Right has been reduced to a single, sad looking pillar. Last night was sort of chilly but probably far from what we need for ice. Personally I'm hoping for a mild February and an early rock climbing season. In a strange turn of events we headed west to escape the shitty weather and had two awesome days at Index... Quote
kurthicks Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I drove up the Icicle today. nothing in, except for what appeared to be a delaminated Hubba Hubba. perhaps the crowds at the base have a report. All of the rock is soaked too, so no rock climbing either. I'm with Max for an early spring. Quote
keenwesh Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 it's still january!!!! winter is just getting started. but I do love me some spring. Quote
Longshanks Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Some fat ice up by cascade pass: lower north face of J-Berg Most obvious/well-formed line: Most of the bowl: Full perspective: Quote
Longshanks Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Drivable to the Eldorado gate. Bare, or hard-packed snow/ice all the way to Cascade Pass parking lot. Took ~ 1 hour to walk it. Quote
Valhallas Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I realize this is a bit far from Washington ice, but I thought most of you would enjoy the ice porn and that maybe some of you would be motivated to make the drive and actually climb. Here are some photos showing the Weeping Wall (location of Polar Circus and many other routes) on the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National park, Alberta, Canada. I took them on Monday the 25th. I don't know what the conditions are normally like, but based on the photos I found after a quick search on google images, it looks to be in pretty fat condition. Much to my dismay I didn't have any of my climbing gear on this trip. If I did, I probably wouldn't ever have come back. G-spotter Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 That's pretty lean actually. It is often way fatter than that. Quote
