"Poll: 57% Don't See Stimulus Working

Six Months After Obama Launched Stimulus, Majority of Americans Think It's Done Little to End Recession..."

The confused and angry white people who think the stimulus was supposed to "do its thing" in six months are just precious. :moondance:

Obama said the stimulus plan approved by Congress and signed into law in mid-February "was not designed to work in four months -- it was designed to work over two years."

That's cause the part that Bush caused wasn't really that bad and should have been easily fixed but Obama screwed things up way worse. Actually Obama caused the whole economic downturn a couple of years ago, didn't you hear?

obama is a very smart man, he is going to make all of our lives easier. the private sector is failing, it's about time the government takes over. i'm gonna be first in line at the clinic, can't wait to get these warts removed.

even a GOP poll found that 66% want a public option available: http://washingtonindependent.com/48140/gop-poll-yes-people-want-a-public-option

and many more ...

I wonder if more people understood the idea of not-for-profit insurance co-ops, as Conrad is pushing, that the public support for the "public option" would dwindle further.

Sure, give it a few more month of propaganda by the corporate media and betrayal by elected officials, and the public option will have less than 50% approval. Between the continual fear-mongering ("Obama is a commie vampire who will send the elderly to the gas chamber"), the lack of discussing single-payer healthcare, and constant mouthing of conservative talking points, what do you expect people to do? Think they are being manipulated by elites into doing what's not good for them?

I'm considering the 66-76% in support of a public option are voting more for a change or against the current mess rather than for anything.

They know that medicare works. They know that 1/3-1/4 of them have very poor to non-existent access to healthcare, which is an excellent way to lose everything they have if a serious illness occurs in the family. They know that single-payer/mixed systems work much better (not even close) in all other advanced nations. They are supporting taking healthcare away from the profiteers:

Right, as if there would be no consequences for not delivering what they promised (those that did). This betrayal of representative democracy may well continue but for how long and at what expense?

Just heard on the radio! "all of you in congress who we didn't vote for last time and would never vote for under any circumstances- we're voting you OUT in 2010! You're on NOTICE!!!"

Ooooohhh!

the opposition base is pissed...

so are a significant number of those that voted for B-HO. At least that's true today. 14 months left until midterm elections...

exactly. The opposition base is pissed (they always are, whether in power or out), and once again the democrats are going to shoot themselves in the foot by squabbling endlessly amongst themselves and will then wonder how they blew it so quickly. Meanwhile the Republicans can't wait to take back power in 2010 and maybe 2012 too, so they can get back to doing absolutely nothing about health care except maintaining the profit margins of the insurance lobby.

I'm hoping for a viable third party to rise up

Except for "cash for clunkers". That was working too well, and they're mad about that, because they think that if the govt can't run cash-for-clunkers, they cannot run healthcare.

that's cause between Obama's popularity and how bad Bush had screwed things up, it was probably pretty hard to get too excited about anything.

People are still in denial, they think as soon as the stimulus works or whatever that economic recovery is going to look like how things have been for the past 2 or 3 decades- unbridled debt spending, soaring home prices, and no manufacturing.

The reality is I think that our standard of living as a whole can remain adequate and comfortable but necessarily has to decrease- considering that it has all this time been built on illusion and speculation rather than concrete footing. For some who have lived within their means it won't mean much, for others...

agreed, except I am not sure our "standard of living" will decrease - just spending on stupid shit we don't need.

that is more or less what I mean, but for a disturbing number of people, buying a lot of SHIT constitutes a quantifiable standard of living...

I don't think these morons are going to make it too far into the postseason...

don't forget Sean Hannity selling hot dogs, Mark Levin as the angry manager, Michael Savage as the costumed mascot pantomiming murdering effigies of the other team, and Anne Coulter scrubbing toilets in the locker room.

if universal healthcare is evil b/c its socialism, and socialism is evil therefore it cannot be tolerated, then why the fuck are we friends w/ so many socialist countries? why did we lobby so hard to get them to join the freedom (fuck yeah!) team in iraq and afhganistan?
