Hi all,

I know there are some good (for stair-climbing training) outdoor public staircases in Seattle, like the one at 137th St NE near 42nd Ave. Does anyone know of a good one in the Wallingford/Fremont/Ballard/U-District area? Doesn't have to be huge, just public and accessible. Thanks for any info.

Steve

20th down to U village around 47th.

2 good ones from E 10th to I5 around Howe (Cap hill).

A nice series of steep streets between I5 and Latona around 52nd to 60th.

I think there is a long stair set in Fremont but I am not sure where.

These take you more or less from the top of Capitol hill to ~ 50 feet above the water level if you continue down past the public mountain bike park.

just a thought but why limit yourself to just stairs? While stairs would be a good training for following a great bootpack trail, it is not very representative of real alpine. How about hauling ass up some of those steep sidewalks in downtown seattle or elsewhere? You could simulate cramponing up moderate angles slopes and get a good calf burn. The sidewalk bums could simulate objective hazards.

You should wear your helmet though. Those 40 OZers will put you on your knees for sure...

Do any Vancouver WA folks know if the bleachers at the Washington State School for the Blind are open to the public?

Holy Cripes... I was inspired by the stair list and decided to jog the West Seattle, Thistle stairs by Lincoln park. I would've double checked the count, except that on my third lap I was ready to puke and it took everything I had to get back to the car. Love it.
