olyclimber Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 This is HUGE!!! http://youdecide08.foxnews.com/2008/02/19/michelle-obama-takes-heat-for-saying-shes-proud-of-my-country-for-the-first-time/ Quote
Peter_Puget Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Well mostly Porter that's because he has avoided all issues. That and because many of his fans are idiots. For example=> Tavis: So what do you do now? Sarandon: Well, I'm going to back Obama. But I hope - I think that he, as a symbol, has really excited people, and he's definitely confusing to everyone who really hates America for hating Muslims because a name like Obama and a Black man, they're probably going to go "Oh, wait a minute - what?" It's kind of like when you're out on the line for freedom to have an abortion and you're incredibly pregnant. They just can't quite figure it out. So I think he definitely has convinced people that he stands for change and for hope, and I can't wait to see what he stands for. Tavis: Well, speaking of can't wait to see, a lot of you I'm sure now can't wait to see "Bernard and Doris" on HBO all month. Susan, nice to meet you. link My take is that Obama will beat Hillary and be defeated soundly in the election. This will of course bring back the Clintons and ironicaly work against any real change. RuMR Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 leave it to the dem's to lose yet another gimme election Quote
olyclimber Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 peter, do you really want me to drum up all the idiots supporting Hillary and McCain? i don't know that obama will lose to the maverick that suddenly isn't really a maverick anymore, but I guess we'll see in due time. Quote
Peter_Puget Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Go for it! Here is a German perspective: The rise of democratic frontrunner Barack Obama signifies an alarming victory of style over substance. Not unlike the dot-com hype, his campaign promises more than he can deliver. The one thing his voters can count on is that they will ultimately be disappointed. link Quote
olyclimber Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 I don't have time and I'm too busy with my pompoms to listen to your negativity. I would be interested to hear who you are voting for and what makes them "substantial" though. I've been waiting for people to start trying to tear apart Obama but there is either one of two strategies at work: a.) they haven't figured out how and the above is the best they can do. b.) they are just waiting till he beats hillary to unleash the beast. either way his message has been refreshingly positive compared to the negative campaigns run in years past. if you don't admire him for that I feel sorry for you. Here is a great example of the "style over substance" : Bob the Builder - Champion of Neverending Optimism jjXyqcx-mYY vs. Sad Sack More War 3gwqEneBKUs i read about Obama plans he is always saying the right things to me, he seems reasoned and rational. Compare that with what we have today. I think you're "misunderestimating" Obama, but I could be wrong. Quote
StevenSeagal Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Obama sounds so...optimistic. Fuck that shit. I want someone to tell me to be SCARED, and WHAT to be scared of. Quote
olyclimber Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 I believe that is exactly what is going to happen. I expect to be cowering in fear before the year is out, but blessing the domestic surveillance program and the umbrella of the military industrial complex (outsourced to China). Those conspiracy theorists in the crowd might even speculate that strategically planned events will help you realize that fear! Quote
111 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 What have you got against hope and change? THEY WORK. its better than what we have now! As a side note, it may be too early now, but have you noticed how relatively "clean" the election has been so far? Very little in the way of the dirt has come out on any candidates. Oh well, thats just me being optamistic. I am sure they are all just in the information gathering stage at this point. Quote
StevenSeagal Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 What have you got against hope and change? THEY WORK. its better than what we have now! OH NO THEY DON'T! IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU BE AFRAID OF TERRORISTS AND FEEL HELPLESS! THEN YOU WILL LOOK TO YOUR GOVERNMENT TO SAVE YOU AND KEEP YOU SAFE! MOST IMPORTANT, DON'T IMAGINE THAT BUILDING A BETTER SOCIETY INVOLVES PROACTIVE OPTIMISM, OR ESPECIALLY ACTIVE PARTICIPATION, ON YOUR PART! THERE IS NO "WE" IN TEAM! CHANGE IS FOR DREAMY IDEALISTS! GET WITH REALITY AND ACCEPT HOW SHITTY LIFE IS AND THAT THE GOVERNMENT WILL TRY TO MAKE IT LESS SHITTY BUT THEY ARE THE ONLY HOPE SO BOW YOUR HEADS AND SALUTE NOW AND STOP ASKING QUESTIONS AND GET BACK TO WORK! Oh well, thats just me being optamistic. I am sure they are all just in the information gathering stage at this point. Although not particularly attracted to either candidate from the Democratic Party I do find it most unfortunate that the more qualified of the two is losing to a candidate who represents the ability of appallingly skilled oration to seduce peoples' minds. It has been surprisingly non-negative to date. The possible attacks on Hillary are manifold and well-known, making them I think easier to defend against. Barack has not really been attacked yet, except for vague directions to an already known lack of experience. It will be interesting, when he is nominated, to see just how far the other side will go - even so far as his connection with and personal support of a losing Kenyan presidential candidate who entered into binding agreements with Islamic clerics to institute Sharia should he be elected. Or perhaps his support of an institution in Chicago, claiming to be a Christian church, which has presented Louis Farrakhan with their highest honour. Should be interesting. - Bob Quote
