ewhack Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Trip: Chair - NF Date: 1/25/2008 Trip Report: Little late but WTH Bit thinner than last time I was there (2/2006) Quote
goatboy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 That DOES look a little thinner than I have seen in the past... Not much of a schrund at the base of the route, though, from what I can see here....? Quote
ewhack Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 True; no visible schrund, glide crack, moat... link Quote
genepires Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 schrunds usually fill in during the winter. One would expect a schrund in mid to late summer and on glaciers. Maybe a moat by mid summer. Quote
goatboy Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 True, true....whatever term we use for the gaping hole that can form in winter, I've seen an appreciable crack at the base of this route in winter (February) in the past and my observation here is that from what I can see from conditions this year, there doesn't seem to be much of one this year....All the dumping must really have filled things in. ewhack Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 Sorry if I was obtuse. I was being terminology geek. Yes, there is a formidable crack at the base of this route in winter some years. I did not encounter it this trip. Quote
goatboy Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Thanks for the update on conditions. Nice work climbing the route in thin conditions! GB Quote
wayne Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Why does it seem like this should be buried with snow? They got 122 inches in the last 8 days! Quote
dbconlin Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Why does it seem like this should be buried with snow? They got 122 inches in the last 8 days! Yeah, I have to wonder that too... Anyone got any recent photos of the NE slab on the tooth? Quote
ilookeddown Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Cold dry snow + wind transport = bare rock. Here is couple of pictures of a skier triggered slab avalanche just below the route I took on 1/23/08. I figure some of the snow from up there ended up below. Quote
Toast Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Trip: Chair - NF Date: 1/25/2008 Trip Report: Little late but WTH Bit thinner than last time I was there (2/2006) Makes it an ice climb... rather than just a steep snow climb Quote
