That's what we did last year, Muffy. And what we'd be doing again if we hadn't been invited to the birthday party. We actually celebrated and watched the ball drop at midnight east coast time so we could put the kiddos to bed and then have some time to ourselves.

Try some pre-emptive interference. Start with acknowledging the turn of the new year at the international date line and celebrate it every hour around the globe. They'll be ready to knock off by the time you reach New York (unless they're like my friends, who just work themselves up into greater frenzy and carry on until we reach the What-The-F&*k Islands, just short of January 2).

I'm considering having either one decent beer or one good cocktail for new years.

Kelly is a reluctant teetotaller, as well. Her special, once-a-year drink is a Black Butte Porter.

Happy New Years, Feck!
