Sherri
ARGH! Looks like ye pseudo-snackers will have to give up the booty, or it'll be the poop deck for ya, matey's! Veggie Booty Recall
tvashtarkatena
I ordered me some freeze dried grub, and it came in popcorn packing material. My friend Dave and I were complaining about all the wasteful styrofoam, until my wife Joanna entered the room and explained that the stuff was made of corn starch. It's essentially Veggie Booty without the spices. So Dave and I started munching on the packing material. And, you know what? It tasted like packing material. Sherri
But you get points for your recycling efforts!
catbirdseat
That stuff is great. It dissolves in water. Just put it in the sink and wash it down, or flush it down the toilet. Much better than styrofoam!
Weekend_Climberz
I bet some butter would be great on that stuff. Aaaarrgh! Matey!

Much better than styrofoam! Actually, it's not. I was just talking with my ecology professor about that.
catbirdseat
Care to elaborate? Are you defending styrofoam?
thatcher
i hear that the process of making that stuff pollutes more than the pollutedness of Styrofoam. just like how the process of recycling paper uses up vast more amounts of nonrenewable resources (petroleum) and ruins the atmosphere than just cutting down a few more trees that will be replanted...probably in southern washington where the climbing and hiking isn't very good anyway. oh and both recycled paper and corn starch foam reportedly eats babies and fetuses. archenemy
Bummer about this. I love veggie booty! I only allow myself to get one bag at a time b/c I eat it all in one sitting.
Sherri
Smart thinking. When it comes to booty, it's good to pace yourself.

This has to be bullshit. I worked in a mill that used both recycled paper and raw wood to make pulp. I can assure you, it is much easier to reclaim the paper fibre from recycled paper than to create it from raw wood. Basically, add water to the paper, run it through a blender, filter it and voila! Compared to grinding a tree down into pulp, there is no contest.
G-spotter
The Economist - June 29th - recycled paper uses between 32% and 65% less energy than new paper.

ashw_justin
cutting down a few more trees that will be replanted...probably in southern washington where the climbing and hiking isn't very good anyway....or Canada. Also if we cut down all of the trees there won't be any more of those dangerous forest fires.
