kevino Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Is anyone on here by chance a biologist or geneticist of some nature? Im suppose to decipher 4000+ genes from chicken proteins and am having one helluva time doing it. My research professor is out of town and wants to see how far I've gotten when he gets back next week. Thanks. Quote
minx Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 it doesn't matter how much you've done by the time he returns. it won't be enough, good enough or even the right experiment anyway. i suggest you go drink beer and enjoy your weekend. the results will be the same Quote
ClimbingPanther Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 if I could be an enzyme, I would be DNA Helicase so I could unzip your genes  are you saying you have to give a DNA sequence, just by translating from the protein sequence? it's not so simple since there are many DNA sequences that all code for the same amino acid Quote
Kat_Roslyn Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Kevino, Minx is absolutely correct. Tell Dr. Wagner to shove it and quit making his students do all of his work when he doesn't even teach right now. He is off having fun, I suggest you do the same. Â Quote

jon Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 So what the hell was the question in the first place? Quote
Alpinfox Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 So you have a bunch of DNA sequence tags from an affymetrix chip and you need to know what the proteins sequences for each are?  or  You have some protein sequences you got from _________ and you need the complete gene sequences for each? Or maybe you just need the gene names?  Am I getting close?  I still don't understand what it is you are trying to do. Quote
ClimbingPanther Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 do you understand what you're supposed to do? you're not communicating it well with us. Quote
