DPS Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 I just picked up a 10+ year old XKG I had brought in for cleaning. They charged me 20$. For that price I got a new fuel bottle, new pump, a shaker jet upgrade, new manual, new maintainance kit, new wind screen and heat reflector, new carrying bag, new style pot supports, and the stove now looks brand new. I got the same treatment with my Whisperlite too. If I did not know better I might think the girl behind the counter gave me a bunch of extras because she has a thing for old men with beards. Quote
hasbeen Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 I recently got the same treatment with a 20-year old XGK (minus the shaker jet as this could not be retrofitted into a stove as old as mine). I'm old too but I don't have a beard. Not to burst your bubble but I think it's just a pretty darn good company. Quote
gearbot Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 Everyone knows MSR is owed by REI, right? Quote

nobody Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 I believe that MSR was sold off from REI's list of wholly owned subsidiaries no too long ago. Also REI never, or rarely anyway, interfered with the running of the company. I agree MSR has it right. [ 02-27-2002: Message edited by: nobody ] Quote
Juneriver Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 MSR Rocks... and is owned by Cascade Designs. Quote
DPS Posted February 27, 2002 Author Posted February 27, 2002 I knew that Cascade Desgins and MSR were owned by the same company. I find it interesting that they both manufacture products (water bladders, cookware, treking poles) that directly compete with each other. Quote
Juneriver Posted February 27, 2002 Posted February 27, 2002 I think the ownership/partnership/whatever has been in effect for less than a year (probably closer to six months). They are probably facing the usual integration issues of two formerly competing companies and I assume one or the other company will phase out the redundant products. Quote
dbb Posted February 28, 2002 Posted February 28, 2002 I'm pretty sure she was so helpful because she wanted some of his "summer sausage". Quote

Brunswick owns Searay Boats and Boston Whaler, and they both compete against each other to some degree. In fact the Sea Ray dealers sell BW. Quote
CascadeClimber Posted February 28, 2002 Posted February 28, 2002 Completely off topic, but I just couldn't help but notice the resemblance. Dan and Squatch: One and the same? [ 02-27-2002: Message edited by: CascadeClimber ] Quote
