StreetBoss Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I haven't been there in years...is it worth the drive for a day? Any good routes? Quote
scot'teryx Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 New guidebook came out a few years ago with some cool new routes Quote
eric8 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 why go to erie when you could go to index? Quote
Billygoat Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Because it isn't raining at Erie. Â But hey, less is more.... Quote
ericb Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 why go to erie when you could go to index? Â If you're a wuss like me, it's tough finding a whole lot of routes you can lead at Index. From what I've heard, lots of moderate routes at Erie. Â Â Quote
Sherri Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 It's a nice place to spend the afternoon...rock's ok, routes' ok, but the views make it all worthwhile. Â I've heard it can be a little frustrating finding your way around the maze of paths there. Grab a copy of the guidebook at the little grocery store(Lake Erie Grocery) just as you turn onto Heart Lake road. They sometimes keep it behind the counter, so you have to ask for it if you don't see it. Â Good luck, Quote
Lowell_Skoog Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 I did my first roped leads at Mt Erie many years ago. Jack of Diamonds, The Open Book, and so on. I remember being intimidated trying the Open Book in waffle stompers with a small selection of nuts. I was teaching myself and my older brother was belaying me. I remember chickening out and using some aid. Â I still have a soft spot for Mt Erie. It's a beautiful place. Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 the refrigerator wall is worth a visit if you're in the area. a couple of cool 12's and 13's, sport. Quote
StreetBoss Posted February 10, 2007 Author Posted February 10, 2007 Thanks for the input. I was hoping for lots of moderate and a few 12's. I think I'll be calling in sick next week for a day up there. Â Quote

"oil-smart" particularly given the price of fuel, which is expected to rise in the long-term.  Island Cnty Transit route in vicinity http://islandtransit.org/index.cfm?pageID=2506  There are links to various county bus systems from KC Metro Transit  Also see http://transit.metrokc.gov/tops/oto/translinks.html Regional BUS access links  Edited February 10, 2007 by MPaul_Hansen Quote
plexus Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Having lived in Anacortes, I'm slightly partial to Erie. Have the ticks come out yet? Quote
Wakaranai Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I couldnt believe it. Last sat. it was about 31 degrees F and I still found a tick on my shoulder. Those dirty little bastards. Quote
mattp Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Erie is totally worth the drive. It is beautiful, and the climbing is pretty good, too. Definitely a gem. Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I like Erie. It is best when you know where to go. So don't get discouraged if you spend a time or too just figuring that out. Powerline Wall is nice. Basically harder on left easier as you go right. Zig Zag is fun too. Quote
Billygoat Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 I'm gonna regret saying this but, I was there yesterday. Nobody anywhere down low. Rock was dry. Beautiful day. And when I got back to my car, Blake was waiting with his girlfriend. They saw my rig and stopped by to say hello. They reported a simiar situation up top. No ticks I can find, yet. But'll I'll be jumpin' in the shower soon and will report back.... Â Â Quote

Erie. Island County Transit's Route 4 passes Mt. Erie on Hwy 20, but does not (and can not) stop at Campbell Road, which is still miles away from Erie. Â The drive is completely worth it!! Quote
Wakaranai Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Ticks or not, this time of year there is no better place to be on a sunny day in WA state. Yes better climbing, but for the complete package, make the drive. Quote
