It's a nice place to spend the afternoon...rock's ok, routes' ok, but the views make it all worthwhile.

I've heard it can be a little frustrating finding your way around the maze of paths there. Grab a copy of the guidebook at the little grocery store(Lake Erie Grocery) just as you turn onto Heart Lake road. They sometimes keep it behind the counter, so you have to ask for it if you don't see it.

Good luck,

I did my first roped leads at Mt Erie many years ago. Jack of Diamonds, The Open Book, and so on. I remember being intimidated trying the Open Book in waffle stompers with a small selection of nuts. I was teaching myself and my older brother was belaying me. I remember chickening out and using some aid.

I still have a soft spot for Mt Erie. It's a beautiful place.

RE: is it worth the drive ??

Perhaps, if time permits, some could consider alternative

transportation; to be? "oil-smart" particularly given the

price of fuel, which is expected to rise in the long-term.

Island Cnty Transit route in vicinity

There are links to various county bus systems from

KC Metro Transit

I'm gonna regret saying this but, I was there yesterday. Nobody anywhere down low. Rock was dry. Beautiful day. And when I got back to my car, Blake was waiting with his girlfriend. They saw my rig and stopped by to say hello. They reported a simiar situation up top. No ticks I can find, yet. But'll I'll be jumpin' in the shower soon and will report back....

This is a laudable goal, but Skagit Transit goes no-where near Mt. Erie. Island County Transit's Route 4 passes Mt. Erie on Hwy 20, but does not (and can not) stop at Campbell Road, which is still miles away from Erie.

The drive is completely worth it!!
