Jens Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I think shorter rock climbers have an edge? rumr is correct about what th average joe should be able to climb without the above listed limiations. The big guys always seemed good right off the bat at waterfall ice but now with leashes being considered taboo, that game is going to the short man to. Quote

Hanger Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 At just below 6'...at 204, I was pulling .9's...at 165, I was pulling hard .11's moving into .12's STWR (strength-to-weight-ratio) At my current weight, I'd need the strength to pull the rock over on top of me Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 This is all crap! If you know how to climb then height does not matter at all!!! I am 5'8" and I guarantee that I can find a way to make the same reach that someone who is 6'0" can reach. Seriously, how often do you have to be 100% extended when you climb? And if you answered this by saying that you are 100% extended a lot then you need to learn some technique. silly talk, man, just silly talk. silly talk. Quote
mountainmatt Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 Trust me, size matters! Are you talking about height or weight? Quote
selkirk Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Forgive me NOLSE..... I just can't help myself this morning but.... There was this neutrino on an obscure climb in the alpine lakes area.... Quote
Off_White Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Finally and honest women! Syntactically abysmal, factually incorrect, but thanks for posting! Quote
tradclimbguy Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Man, I thought this thread finally died... but her it is again. Fat climbers to midget porn to the size of um... Anyone considered girth??? Quote
strumpett Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Anyone considered girth??? Every day! Quote

archenemy Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 But weight has more to do with it than just muscle. How many people do you know that weigh 220+ that crank hard? Not many, but I think John Long is in that range... Quote
archenemy Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I'm 6'3; my girlfriend is 5'3. We both climb at basically the same grade for sport, trad, bouldering, and gym climbing. If height was a major determination of climbing ability, wouldn't the top climbers all be 7-8 feet tall?? No, they'd be basketball players. Quote

mountainmatt Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 According to one site I found, he weighs about 12 stones. That translates to 168 pounds. I wouldn't consider him a heavy until he hits the 15 stone region (~210 pounds). Quote
Hanger Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 JL's at least as big as me...guessing 210-220(or was, haven't seen him in a couple of years)...was cruising .11's like it was that time of day Though, I'm sure what his 210-220 is made of is much different than mine. Sure, I could still pull .11's...if you put a 4 in front of the decimal Quote
drater Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Marty on this site almost weighs 200 pounds and has sent multiple 14's. I almost weigh 200 pounds and haven't fallen off 5.11's for a long time. Obviously, not all 200 pounds are created equal, but if you know how to climb (here's a hint, use your feet retards!) at all, there will be many greater limiters to your performance than body size. This thread is feckin ghey! Quote
