catbirdseat Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 Who's going this year? Mr. Fox, Mos, Robo? I'm going with my usual plan to camp at Hidden Valley from Dec. 26-30 or 31, possibly even longer. Interested in mostly trad leading to 5.9. This trip is coming together as planned. Thus far, I've got willstrickland, and Fenderfour (plus his partner) lined up. I've got a couple more friends for the 26-27th only. Roboboy is thinking about it. JHamaker's whereabouts are unknown. kevbone Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 warm sunshine in tee shirts and prAna tops? You apparently have never been there in the winter months, for sure its the best opportunity for "warm sunshine" but its frickin cold, with wind. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 I've made three winter trips and it can be anything from tee shirts to down jackets and too cold to climb. There are lots of fun hikes to do during those times. Quote

You apparently have never been there in the winter months, for sure its the best opportunity for "warm sunshine" but its frickin cold, with wind. Kevbone you don't know shit about the JT climate apparently. Maybe you should stick to giving advice about things you know a lot about - like hand-drilling in basalt... or maybe spelling and grammar. How many times have you been to JT? ...or maybe somebody just told you about it once during a pole-smoking session? Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 You both have it wrong. CBS you should be doing this that weekend It's okay though, if you're getting out, more power to you. Quote
kevbone Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Two days ago: high 83, low 56, today: High 75, low 47, tomorrow: High 78, low 50. This does not tell how much wind will be blowing. Quote

How many times have you been to JT? ...or maybe somebody just told you about it once during a pole-smoking session? Ah the good Dr. talking out your ass again. Something you do well. I have been there 6 times over the last 10 years beyotch. All in January, Feb, and March. So you can take your lameness elsewhere. I know what it is to be cold. Don’t get me wrong, I would like to be no other place. I was just commenting on the “warm sunshine” comment. It would have been more appropriate to say “come climbing in sunshine and bring you down jacket. Cause its going to be cold” Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Current temperatures in Joshua Tree is 70 degrees F and calm with scattered clouds. Forecast for tomorrow is for a low of 35 F and a high of 66 F and sunny with winds 4-6 knots from the north. Quote
Dr_Flush_Amazing Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 70 degrees and calm!?!?!? You just don't get it CBS. Kevbone says it's gonna be cold and because he said that, your factual telemetry that portends a pleasant shirtsleeves-and-shorts day amid the monzonite must be wrong. Now get back to the lab and cook up some data that agrees with Kevbone! Remember, he's been there a few times, so he KNOWS! Quote
willstrickland Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 This does not tell how much wind will be blowing. Boy, nothing gets by you, eh? Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 (edited) There is an old saying that goes, "why do don't you two just get a room". By the way, if anyone else is looking to go to JTree, my friend Thomas is looking to drive down. He's got a comfortable minivan. If interested, send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with him. EWolfe Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Yep, I am going down for my 4th year in a row, and 6 out of 8, but this year I am going in February. I think Alpinfox is going to be there over the xmas/NewYear break again. Have fun! :brew:E Quote
fenderfour Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I'm part of the "and Co" with the Catbird and Co, but I want to make it clear that this does not make me his bitch. Hey, I might hold a rope while he climbs, but it's not like I owe him anything, ok. I haven't been lurking in the shadows, fawning over his amazing physics skills and knot tying skills. Get me? Yeah, ok then. I will be there from 12/27-1/2. Look for the ridiculous van and a tall bearded, tattoo-ed, pierced guy. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 It would be nice if that AlpinFox feller would clean out his mailbox so folks could send him PMs. Damn, I wish I were half as popular as he. Quote
rob Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I wish I could go, but I've got family that week and there's no way I can get away. Quote
EWolfe Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Change of plans! Looks like I will be down on the 27th, then 2 weeks in the Tree! w00t! :moondance: Quote

Weekend_Climberz Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Better make sure there's no SAR's going on, because if there is the place is liable to be shut down. Happy Birthday Rob!! Quote

EWolfe Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 You bringing your "chemistry kit" again this year? Nudge, nudge. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 CBS, doesn't climb with a rastafarian bivy kit, he should be belittled and chastized since he is obviously unprepared for long days out in the cold. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 My chemistry kit is limited to beer and Tylenol. I'll bring my down parka for the bivy. I'm not particularly sensitive to smoke, so I won't complain about your rasta kit. Quote
