jmj11 Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 (edited) I'm wanting to open an "Adventure sports gear" type shop including a good rock climbing/mountianeering department. Who's the best equipment makers? What would climbers want as far as products? Besides back diamond (my personal equipment-and I'm a novice when it comes to climbing) CAMP-USA sounds like a good line. Any reccomendations? Mike, Anacortes Edited August 24, 2006 by jmj11 Quote
G-spotter Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 The best equipment manufacturer is the one having the most fun? Quote
shapp Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I like Wal-mart, the yellow rope on da spools is da bomb Quote
fenderfour Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I would say that Camp isn't the greatest. Be sure to include some Grivel and La Sportiva on top of what Billygoat said. Quote
cj001f Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Petzl, Wild Country, Mammut, 5.10 and West Pole Brand I love the store in Kathmandu where you can get those all made to order! Quote

kevbone Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Wow, Dirty Ferry, looks like other trollers beat you to the first response. I bet your feeling a little stupid right now. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Come on, man, even you can do better than that. Quote
dan_forester Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I second dirty harry's advice. if you don't have someone working there who knows about climbing, you probably shouldn't be selling climbing gear. Do you want to tell customers "I carry 5.10 and grivel because that's what billygoat and fenderfour said on teh internets"? Quote
dan_forester Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 nothing against billygoat and fenderfour's opinions, I'd agree with their recommendations in fact...... Quote

dan_forester Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 careful, those 3 letters have been known to spawn discussions that rival the IB thread(s) in terms of tediousness... Quote
cj001f Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 careful, those 3 letters have been known to spawn discussions that rival the IB thread(s) in terms of tediousness... tedious and tendentious? I have not the capability of inflicting such misery Quote
DirtyHarry Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Shit man, I've even got a Member's Only jacket. I'm wearing it right now. Quote

cj001f Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I'll take miss scarlett and the maid in my bedroom Quote
ericb Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I prefer anything made overseas in sweatshops - preferably using child labor if you can find it. Unfortunately this really limits you to apparel. Stay away from the liberal wack-jobs at Patagonia as they use organic cotton and filter lobbying $ to enviro-fascist causes, among other things. If you want to carry hardware and footware, you'll unfortunately have to do business with the quasi-communists in Italy and France at a minimum. Fortunately, you will find good gear from our friends and fellow Warlords in the UK.....DMM, Wildcountry (now the same). Quote
dan_forester Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Carl, you'd be lucky to get Mrs Peacock in the kitchen Quote
