JoshK Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I know it's asking a lot, but does anybody have a recommendation for a moderately easy hike in the alpine lakes area that won't be infested by hordes of humans? Lake would be cool, but anything is good as long as it isn't packed like the standard rachel lake, snow lake, etc. hikes. Quote
goatboy Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I've never been to Shield Lake (just North of Prussik Pass) but I bet it would be easy to get to (swimming through the hordes) but isolated once you get there...it always looks nice when seen from Temple Ridge. Quote
spicoli11 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Lake minatour is not in the alpine lakes but its easy to get to and there are not alot of people there midweek Quote
MountaingirlBC Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 (edited) Just above Shield Lake are the beautiful Lorelei (sp?) Lakes. You'd probably have less bugs up there as it's out of the trees for the most part. Truly a beautiful spot. There is a route in that follows an old logging road that starts off somewhere near the Stuart Lake but I don't know what kind of shape it would be in now. I can send you a map & more info if you shoot me an email. From the main trail you'd just go up Prusik Pass & over. Hang a left and make your way over to the lakes just below the Druid Plateau on Cannon. Â Edited July 20, 2006 by MountaingirlBC Quote

I've been to Shield and Mesa Lakes on my way to climb the Mole. Amazing place, as is the Edwards Plateau (I think- right by the Mole). We saw no one after we left the Snow Creek trail (granted, we got lost and took the drainage before the correct one in Selected Climbs 2). Highly recommended. I've been told that there is a better approach via Nada lake, or you could just cricle North around Prussik and come in that way. Quote
still_climbin Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Toketie Lake, over Prussik Pass and E of Shield Lake is secluded and beautiful. Try one of the Necklace Valley lakes in the Foss river drainage. Quote

Alpinfox Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Â If the emphasis is on easy hiking, how about Melakwa Lakes (near Snoqualamie Pass). Quote
MisterMo Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 No Name & Jade Lake area above Deception Pass is really pretty & not too overrun. Quote

catbirdseat Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Gary's right. Mods please delete the offending post. Quote
montypiton Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I'm not sure what you would consider "moderate" but I would be careful about jumping on the Shield, Toketie, Lorelei bandwagon. Although those lakes are drop-dead gorgeous, and Shield and Toketie are "bare-hook" fishing, you'd have to be named Skoog or Beckey to consider them a "moderate" hike... Quote
catbirdseat Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Summit Lake on Pilchuck is isolated but I don't know how to get there. Quote
GlacierGlider Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Summit is a piece of cake to get too.... Quote
lizard_brain Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 What's this about Alpine Lakes hikes ? Quote
marylou Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I went up to Alaska Lake in the ALW a couple of weeks ago, that's a nice one, and not too difficult. TR here: Â http://hikingwashingtononline.com/viewtopic.php?t=67 Â That Toketie/Sheild/Edward Mesa area is not easy to get to and is also part of the Enchantments permit system. Quote
ZONK Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Just spent 4 days around Toketie & Shield never seen a person the whole time, Its a Great Place ! Quote
