Depends on your climbing interests... Bend: Retirement town for CA retirees that lacks urban growth boundaries (good for construction I would guess ) and a mass transit system (of any kind ). For what it's worth remodeling in PDX is booming (and will continue to) as long as the houseing market continues to climb out of control.
