OlegV Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 Went extreme hiking along the White river trail yesterday, talked to a ranger. A climbing party is 2 days overdue on LR. Any fresh news on this? Quote
mtngt Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Party was found, unharmed, 2+ days overdue. A thankful ending. Quote
ivan Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Nice. what was their story? i figured if it was going to have a happy ending it would involve them bivying in the caves on the summit, old-school style (maybe they found the magic mushroom farm i installed up there by the toasty, moist fumaroles - might explain their difficulty in coming back down the hill?) bigwallpete Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Just found info at http://www.komotv.com/news/story.asp?ID=31776 It isn't good news 1 person dead and the other still missing and presumed dead. My thoughts are with there family and friends. Be safe out there Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 that story is from the party last year, good to hear these guys made it out ok. Quote
Alex_Mineev Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 This article is from 2004. So I believe no dead people this time. Quote
Dru Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Nice endings and extreme hiking! OlegV are you training to beat the speed record for the Trifecta of Cascade Jewels? Quote
mec Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 It is a little riskier than "Extreme Walking", but basically the same Quote
bcollins Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Don't forget some "canned wheat". That's the secret to being extreme. Quote
ivan Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 extreme hiking = doing an approach for a climb w/ all your gear, only to turn right the hell around at/near the base of the climb due to any number of factors including weather, conditions and gumby-ness Quote
knelson Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I thought that was called "checking on conditions" or "gathering beta." I like your version better. Quote
OlegV Posted June 21, 2005 Author Posted June 21, 2005 Just curiously probing an upper edge of misery one can expose himself to. Fortunately, there is always a safe and happy return to the Burger King land. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 extreme hiking = doing an approach for a climb w/ all your gear, only to turn right the hell around at/near the base of the climb due to any number of factors including weather, conditions and gumby-ness sounds like a textbook definition of my run up to Shasta 2 weekends ago.
