Â Everest is harder than a marathon and harder than an Iron Man Triathalon, it might be harder than that race they have across Death Valley, but it isn't as hard as crossing antartica by human power. Â I don't think you can compare it to technical climbs other than to say that it is more glamorous than any of the climbs you listed. Â Having other people haul all your weight, do the leading, etc., is a big difference from being entirely self-sufficient. Clearly for Everest the implication is guided with porters and oxygen. Â Why does climbing one objective to another objective have to be more difficult than the other? Â Why can't the climbs just be different and leave it at that? Â I have a firefighter friend who climbed The Tooth. He still rates that as one of the most difficult things he has done--and is still proud of doing it. Though if you leave your junk all over it, then maybe the word conquer is justified, as you basically raped and pillaged the mountain. Scotty Burke freed it, yeah one pitch was on top rope, but I'd consider that half. Â Lynn Hill did it more than once though, and in under 24 hours....
