dberdinka Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 So no shit there I was sitting somewhere on Snow Creek Wall the other day in the shade. It was cold and windy and I thought....Damn I need a wind shirt. Something simple preferrably with a hood light of course abrasion resistant too Make it cheap and fairly water resistant. So I look around the internet and see there are lots of windshirts out there. I hear there's some real experts on the topic around here so I thought I'd ask? Which one should I buy? Quote
RuMR Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 check with NOLSe...he's the resident expert...sportin' a new one with built-in pockets to stash bootied neutrinos in too... Quote
Couloir Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Marmot DriClime Windshirt (~$100) is a good choice. I also have had great luck with a Nike ACG windshirt from the Outlet store on MLK here in Portland. $34.99. Works fabulous! Quote
JBC Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 I have an old Wild Things windshirt (now called the Superlight) that is the perfect windshirt, a light pullover, no pockets, no hood, light and compact enought that you will actually have it with you when you need it - just stuff it into a pocket! They also have an 'epic' windshirt with a hood, but to my mind it kind of defeats the purpose to have a full zip and a hood, just adds to much bulk for my taste. I like the clean and simple windshirt, anything more is really a jacket and just takes up to much space. Quote
Plinko Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 http://www.sportshell.com/ the 'Original' weighs 3.2 oz and cost $10.00. There's no hood, so save your plastic grocery bags to put on your head. But for $10, who cares... If you gotta spend more than $10 to feel like a real man, then check out the Patagucci ReadyMix...only 20 times more than the SportShell, but it's got a hood Quote
dberdinka Posted May 24, 2005 Author Posted May 24, 2005 At $10 Sport Shirt it is! Thanks for the link. Maybe I'll post a review at some point. Darin Quote
kenp Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 $10 windshirt! the whole family gets one now! I wonder how much for a custom logo?? Quote
markharf Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Darin, I got a good deal on a Patagonia at a liquidation sale at The House of SB a few years ago (also bought skis, bindings, mountain bike wheels, and probably a bunch of other miscellaneous). Never saw the point to windshirts before, but I wear it all the time. Venting, pockets and cut make a difference, and the hood adds a lot in marginal weather; you'll use it a lot in marginal weather, of course, just like everything else. Entirely worth the $50 I paid, and a vast improvement over plastic bags from Value Village. Quote

Dru Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 K-Way 1980's era nylon poncho from Value village, $5.WITH HOOD! and rainbow elastics too. Quote
stinkyclimber Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 The signature Guy Edwards windshirt was his mid-80s BC Winter Games K-way, a little small, and worn bare chested (for maximum breatheability he always said...it definitely wasn't for picking up chicks - "nylon and sweaty skin" - yummy (not!)) He still makes me smile....thanks, Guy. Quote
specialed Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 You'll never score neutrinos on the Girth Pillar wearing that thing. Quote
olyclimber Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Sweet, a Tyvek windshirt. They should expand their line to include parkas made with fiberglass insulation and tents made with asphalt shingles. Quote
