thenumber3 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I think I'm finally going to show my ugly mug again. Mmm... what delicious weather... Probably be there around 5:30. I'll try and bring a beater rope. Quote
JosephH Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Do you go anywhere for a beer afterwards? My friend Marco would like to meet you guys and maybe give it all a whirl sometime but can't get out there in time to climb tonight... Quote

John Frieh Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 No beer plans tonight... have your friend come to the madrone thing for sure. I am doing a thursday session if I get enought interest (that means if you are reading this and interested you need to let me know). Â If not this week maybe next week? Hmmm... Â Bring yer snorkle! And maybe a trash bag! Quote
dbb Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I hear that rain melts the plastic on your ice axes Quote
ivan Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 jesus - looking at the radar inspires no confidence in me. guess i'm a frigg'n lamo but i find myself suddenly disinterested in fighting rush hour traffic to slip around in the mud when i could just get some cardio in and jam at da gym. reckon missing out on all this hobo-humping in the drizzle is really gonna hurt my alpine game, eh? Â when's noah gonna come my way? Quote
thenumber3 Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 well, I hope all you kids had some serious fun out there in the serious rain! I ended up going to a job interview instead... Quote
Blake Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 It was fantastic! Ivan missed out on the free beer and Pizza. Quote
syklone Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 There was nothing dry about tonight, but it couldn't have been better for my first time drytooling. Rocky was in fine condition. Someone could make a killing on anti-mud plates for the 'pons, that much is needed. Thanks peeps. Quote
davidio Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Yeah, mucho gracias for the use of ropes that are beginning to blur the line between nylon and wet dirt. The conditions this evening were . . . . er . . rewarding, i guess. Â It was great meeting you folks , i hope to run into you all again sometime very soon!! THANKS!! Quote
John Frieh Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 I hear that rain melts the plastic on your ice axes  Well no wonder the bulk of M climbers in WA suck. They all believe that rumor or are too busy going to pub club  Mac and I discussed it and last night was the wettest night either of us could recall... there was a partial waterfall flowing through the tree route route... the ropes must have weighed 20 lbs when we hiked out... ahh the madness.  I will say hopefully in a few weeks I should have enough routes manufactured at the secret drytool location that just so happens to be under a bridge so then no one can use the "it's raining" excuse.  Think 200' to 300' routes!!! Quote
ivan Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 i look forward to this day, oh dt-master... Â hopefully there'll still be some homeless gentlemen around to watch the uncaging of the soul, you know, ot lend that magical "butte ambience" to the whole affair? Quote
Blake Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 shouldn't we spread some litter and old tarps around the new spot first John, to make it feel like home? Quote
EWolfe Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Just wait a couple of "dry-tooling " nights, and unlubricated condoms will abound. Quote
John Frieh Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 It appears bums have called this place home in the past and it does have some rocky butte feel. Â I stoked that we will stay dry and the routes (when done) are hella long. Endurance! Â Mac scored some hay bails for our routes at rocky so that should combat the mud Quote
John Frieh Posted January 13, 2006 Author Posted January 13, 2006 Next session Tuesday Jan 17th at Rocky Butte. I am flexible so this can be moved *or* we can do a second session... let me know... Â PM me or call (503.758.5772) if attending. I should have hay in place to put an end to the mud Quote
syklone Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I'll be there around 5, I hope. Wednesday would be better, but if it's going down on Tues, I'll be there Quote
John Frieh Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 I gotta work late tonight... how about Thursday? Does that work for people. Â Let me know... 503.758.5772 or PM Quote
John Frieh Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 PDX DT Thursday 1/19 5 pm ish. 3 confirmed so far. Weather looks good also  If you're coming let me know Quote
John Frieh Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 Rocky Butte Improvements: McKenzie (doesn't post on the site but if you've been to dt night you know him) and I built a retaining wall, leveled the ground, put down a bail of hay, and removed some loose rocks from the routes on Sat below the newbie routes. The hay basically eliminates the mud issue (sorry Troy... this might hamper your mud pon research ). Mac donated all the building materials (lumber, stakes, rebar, hay, etc) as well as provided power tools... if you see him at the Madrone Slide Show you should buy him a . In leveling the ground the routes are now approximately 4' taller! I'll try to get out there and take some pics today. Â FYI for anyone out there please do not stand/step on top of the retaining wall. Thanks! Â PDX DT night sabbatical/new dt area development: Mac and I will be busy developing the new area for approximately the next month (give or take) so I won't have time to hold the weekly session. With that said you all know where the routes are... get out there yourself and enjoy the improvements! Â If you are interested in helping develop the new area either by donating some man power or supplies (see the list below) get a hold of me. 503.758.5772 Â We need: - wood scraps: prefer dense hard wood scraps in any shape/size. We are using these for holds so we need a ton! - deck screws. Get a hold of me for size requirements. - lag bolts: we need a bunch. Get a hold of me for size requirements. - 1" tubular webbing: the more the merrier. Needs to be black, brown, or grey. No bright colors. Quote
billcoe Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Love to see people working ! John, I got your deck screws and lag bolts covered. Â Not sure what the webbing will be used for , B and D? I have some older ropes I've retired, might work for tying up the sheep or whatever you have in mind???? Let me know. Â PM me your lag and deck screw needs, I'll try to rustle the stuff up and hand it off Thurs at the Wayne and Mike slideshow. Quote
syklone Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Sounds great John! Your hard work does not go unnoticed! I'm more than happy to help develope the new area in any way I can. I'll be in touch. Quote
