Greg_W Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Stage 12 just ended, with Lance finishing second to some nobody (Carlo Basso?) almost 4 minutes ahead of Thomas Voeckler!!! Voeckler predicted he would not fair well in the mountains and his prediction was realized. Lance mounted an attack with only 3km to go and did well. Quote
b-rock Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Basso isn't exactly 'some nobody', he's one of the pre-race contenders and he's only a minute back on Lance. Ulrich is 3.5 minutes back now though. Â Quote
Greg_W Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 I have to admit ignorance on who is considered a contender in the field. I guess I could have said that he's a nobody to ME, since I haven't heard of him. Quote
nothing Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 basso actually scares me, as does anyone that can climb and is very close to lance in the GC. lance will normally smoke him in a TT, but i believe the TT is uphill this year. on another note - i'm very dissapointed in lemonds comments to the french press about lance and performance enhancing drugs. you expect these things from the french press, but from greg? it ain't gonna help him sell any of his bikes. why would he even go there? is he really that bitter about lance being the new greatest US cyclist ever? Quote
Greg_W Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 Putting it in perspective, I see your point about Basso. Â LeMond is a wanker for saying that shit. It's like he's bitter because Lance has eclipsed his American achievements in the Tour. He's like the Jon Krakauer of cycling. Quote
jon Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I never imagined I would be getting my cycling news from GregW. Greg you didn't happen to notice that they were wearing spandex and shaving their legs did you? You know what happens when you watch a pussy sport right? That feeling you have in your groin right now, it's you testicals finding their way to your abdomen to begin the transformation to ovaries. Â LeMond has had a beef with Lance for a long time and it's not entirely clear why. I guess he doesn't think it was possible for someone to come back from cancer that almost killed him to win the tour, even though Greg came back from a near fatal hunting accident to win the tour. Quote
Greg_W Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 Haha, jon, funny. I have a great deal of respect for these guys; it's one tough sport. The fact that you have pink frillies on YOUR spandex makes me a little nervous, though. Quote
ashw_justin Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Man I'm getting pretty sick of the commentators always going on and on about Lance Armstrong. I love to hear about it when he's actually out in front, but all this "bla bla bla all according to plan bla bla" sure is getting annoying. Especially when there's actually a race happening up front. I thought commentating is all about the drama? Stop calling the race! Quote
icegirl Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 The race is happening in those team cars, piped to the boys through those little ear thingies.... They are just turning the pedals... It's like a rolling game of chess.... I think the race announcers are just trying to let us in on the game  (I'm kidding) Quote
Szyjakowski Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 ya know they should ban those radios... it would be a road race again... go lance!!!!!!!!! Quote
Dru Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 i heard lance gets transfusions of extra-oxygenated blood every night  and sleeps in a velvet lined coffin Quote
cj001f Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 and sleeps in a velvet lined coffin I suppose Sheryl's skinny enough to fit in the coffin with him - maybe that's why he ditched the wife Quote
Greg_W Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 Dude, she's about 9 years older than him. Granted, she's hot, but he ought to be calling Salma Hayek. Who wouldn't? Quote
RobBob Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 gotta disagree---she's not hot IMO. Looks fake. Â I like to watch Lance race, but can't give him much credit for dumping his wife. She was raising their twins, cheering for him, etc. Guess since I wasn't there, I don;t know what the deal was, but on the surface it looks like she got the shaft. Quote
Alasdair Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Some of you might appreciate this pic from the prolog a couple of weeks ago. Quote
EWolfe Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I thought the bulls blocking the road yesterday was pretty damn funny, especially after that "Two-legged Texas Longhorn" chased Lance up the hill the same day.  What a bunch of Bull  The 200km breakaway was spectacular, too. Wow! Quote
Bandit Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 Tyler Hamilton-OUT!! Ouch! Riders are dropping like flys. USPS Team is riding hard, ready to take Lance to #6!! Quote
Szyjakowski Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 the best online resource: http://www.letour.fr/indexus.html  L'alpe d' huez (stage 16) is where i was last year and this year its a timetrial, damn... so, i think if lance wins on 16 its in the bag.   Quote
ashw_justin Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 How about Voeckler doing it by himself, and 23 years old! Give that man a freakin' team... Quote
