Found this interesting...

"The lobby floor of the new CBC building on Queen Street features a map of Canada with several geographical errors laid out in beautiful granite."

"After a picture of the lobby of the still-under-construction building ran in the Citizen yesterday, eagle-eyed readers noticed that the Queen Charlotte Islands off the west coast were missing and that Vancouver Island had suddenly become a peninsula. Further, that new peninsula no longer dipped below the 49th Parallel."

"Yet, while the map missed out on those bits of Canada, it did not fail to incorporate what appeared to be a new province: Alaska."

"It was the second time within the span of a month that a new Ottawa building with national significance was proudly unveiled, only to display a map that failed its geography test."

"Last month, when the Ottawa International Airport's new terminal was opened, an alert traveller noticed that the artist-rendered map of North America -- located in the terminal's baggage area and second-floor level -- had put Atlanta in the middle of Alabama, Chicago in Wisconsin and Washington D.C. in Virginia."

I read an article in one of those climbing porn mags about climbing in Pakistan. The author wrote that the customs agents told the climbers to claim Canadian residency instead of American residency while traveling abroad in the near East and Persian Gulf to avoid any anti-American sentiment.

Thanks W, for making the world a safer place for Americans!

Another interesting topic: Number of Americans Who Don a Canadian Maple Leaf When Travelling Abroad.

An even more interesting topic: Number of Canadians Who Don an Australian Flag When Travelling Abroad Because Most of the World Now Associates the Maple Leaf With Wanker Americans Too Scared or Ashamed To Show Their True Colours And Instead Fuck Up Another Perfectly Good Flag.

Wearing the Aussie flag is easy. Nailing the accent is harder - to cover up my shitty Aussie accent, I have found it best to act like a drunken, misogynist prat with bad fashion sense. That gets people thinking, "Australian". Or Irish. Or British.

Though considered largely a Canadian concept, gravy-cheese fries, aka "Disco fries", are also a staple of diners in NJ. Pretty tasty grease fix, actually. What's the big deal?

Most non-english-as-native speakers won't be able to distinguish an aussie accent from a british, from a canadian, from an american. It's the same way that we have trouble telling apart different brit accents, french accents, etc. Just to be safe tho, I like the drunk irishman idea.

I'm born and raised in this country, and I have never actually seen a plate of poutine in all my life. It's more of a Quebec thing, with periodic outbreaks occurring in the Maritimes and Ontario.

are you serious? i have seen that shit in whistler, west ed, missasagua, halifax and P.E.I. shit is everywhere.

Isn't Canada part of the U.S?

I met some French Canadiens in Costa Rica a couple years back. They were adament that in our lifetime Canada would become part of the US. They said there are just way to many natural resources in Canada and the US corporate machine would need to consume them. They thought it would all start with Canada accepting the US dollar as their currency.

Kinda wierd coming from Canadiens. I have never met any other Canadien that would ever entertain such an idea. Maybe they were just jaded because they were from Quebec.

More precisely because they want their own seperate, pure-bred little country. Separatists think the Rest of Canada (ROC) is a suck-ass lap dog to US imperialism, or some such shit. The next time you see them, ask them about the Plains of Abraham!! yelrotflmao.gif They are still bitter about that (the separatists, not les Quebecois in general)
