RobBob Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 I feel like the guy who knows he missed something big, but I'm not sure what. Shit, my power's been off, and I've beenworking my ass off It seems that once again there has been some 'overspray,' resulting in immoderate moderation...then the usual suspects have been named for banning, etc. You guys can say whatever you want, but Spray keeps this place alive. It IS cc.com, to some extent. There is NOTHING here better than when 4 or 5 threads are humming at once, people are arguing about ethics or technique, and wisecracks are spliced in along with the serious dialog. Go back and look at when Lambone had his epic...a very serious event when it was happening, full of spray. Several good ethics threads...full of spray. The - thread, which was full of spray and therefore held people's interest longer. These come off the top of my head---there are bunches more great threads that were sprayed on, and often enhanced by spray, I say. I've gotten a lot of good info out of this site, and hope to continue to do so. This thing that makes me look at it almost every day is the SPRAY. Otherwise, I'd probably look at it every couple of months. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 I didnt get banned this time. But the "usual suspects" I thought were not the usual banned subjects. Quote
Sphinx Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 Careful, now, RobBob, you don't wanna get banned. Naughty naughty! Quote
Sphinx Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 I think before anyone makes a post, you should send a copy to a moderator to make sure it's OK. Then we won't have any more problems. What I don't get is why we can't be juvenile, caustic, arrogant, mean, ect, in Spray. Spray makes this website what it is, so we shouldn't moderate the hell out of it. Remove spray from anywhere but Spray, but leave spray in Spray alone. Quote
sk Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 Well said RobBob I am in mourning can I get a black arm band on all my posts please Quote
Bronco Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 I've gone weeks without looking at spray, but, on slow afternoons, (like today) I find myself sneaking a look at threads and the next thing you know, I can't get out!!! I say Jon and Tim have given a lot of their time (understatement of the year) developing this website to what it is and if they say the spray is getting carried away, that's their right and I'll stand by it. Except they banned my favorite avatar!!! Quote
Dru Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 Robobobobob it's more like this 1) some moderator gets upset either by a sarcastic or critical comment or by a whiny PM "blowing the whistle" - or by something possibly legitimate (worth moderating) like trask posting some porn; or by their boss at work or whatever 2) said moderator does not like having to work so they vent their anger on the active posters on this site with some random moderation and deleting and banning 3) then anyone who comments on the random acts of moderation is labelled a whiner and randomly moderated some more until we shut up and pretend everything is all well and good. It's the parenting school of "Shut up kid or I'll give you something to REALLY cry about - Mommy is hungover and doesnt need to hear you right now" 4) Moderators seem to REALLY dislike the little eye rolling graemlin 5) The best way to never be moderated on, is to just post quickly agreeing with anything the moderator says, and PM them constantly telling them what a good job they are doing, and how evil and rotten certain other posters are. PS: AlpineK, gapertimmy, mattp, erik, snoboy, jon, Peter Puget, iceguy, off_white, et al ARE DOING A WONDERFUL JOB!!! YOU GUYS ROCK!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! * * Quote
RobBob Posted September 23, 2003 Author Posted September 23, 2003 whether people acknowledge it or not, Spray is the spinal cord of cc.com. And whether people people like it or not, trask is the backbone of spray. trask, I hardly knew ye, you're crass and perverted, but you're my friend! Within a week or two, a whole lot of people will be saying "something's missing..." and they will (in some cases begrudgingly) realize it's trask. Quote

E-rock Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 Oh you two guys. Obviously you're in cahoots. He's out on the boat enjoying the weather. He'll be back. Quote
Dru Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 I got banned! In fact I can't post this right now! Quote

Jon and Tim should be able to call the shots on whatever they see fit. When you are the one griping - ask yourself - "When was the last time I made any kind of $ donation to help the board?" That's right - quit yer bitchin'! Quote

That's right - quit yer bitchin'! Kitten, I remember the last time I made a $ donation to the board...when's the last time you made one? I posted an opinion. I'm still trying to figure out why you posted your response. Was it simply to suck up to Jon and Timmy? (Yeah, I agree, they've got a good gig here and it's their right to do whatever they want with it. I also want them to know that while it might not be apparent that the likes of trask make this place what it is, I do believe that's true. ) Or were you just shooting from the hip, and missing, because you like the sound of your voice chastising people? Alex Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Its really quite simple. We want the best user experience for everyone. Not the best user experience for Dru, Muffy, Alex, jon, AlpineK, mattp, Lowell_Skoog, and Sphinx. The best user experience for everyone is not well defined, but it is somewhere between a dry boring site that Capt Caveman and mikeadam were once upon a time so frightened of, and the idiotic non-stop spray that is hard to achieve even by such illustrious posters as Dru and Muffy. For the most part, the site is at a good balancing point and everyone agrees. If you didnt agree you wounldnt be here every day. So the way this works is the moderators of this site keep trying to find a good balance between bullshit and boredom. If you don't like it, send an email to any one of us. Yes, we have a SUPER SECRET MODERATOR-ONLY FORUM that we sometimes discuss this stuff with each other, but to be honest the moderating game is much more autonomous than that. Moderators are working for free. When you create alot of work for us, it makes us bitchy...because hey, well, we are working for FREE. So if you somehow can manage to not be a bunch of little babies, then moderators suddenly dont have to do as much and are magically not nearly as prone to be pissy or ban you or whatever. Quote
sk Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 what you are seeking is impossible 'you can't please all the people all the time' good luck though Quote
