richardaiken Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 I'm heading to Leavenworth next week. what are the easiest driving directions from Issaquah/ Seattle? I see how to get to the town of Leavenworth but how do you get to the climbing area? Is it safe to leave valuables in a car? Where is the best place to park? Is if legal to sleep in a car there (where?) or is there a free camping area? What is the best section(s) to climb with grades around 5.8-5.10b? Thanks Quote
vegetablebelay Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 These questions are so gumby you must be asking about Leavenworth KS, right? Quote

dbb Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 "Posts: 2", Welcome to the wealth of usefull posts on cc.com Drive over 90 to Cle Ellum, and take 97 over Blewit pass up to highway 2. go back West into town. Take a left on Icicle Creek road, and this will take you to the climbing in Icicle creek canyon. Alternatively, continue West on HW2 until you reach Castle Rock on the right, a couple miles outside of town. The crags are everywhere and obvious in the canyon, but a guidebook would be most helpfull. Also check the web for info on Snow Creek Wall routes like Outer Space, Orbit, Hyperspace, etc... There are a couple shops in Leavenworth that have climbing gear/books. Have fun! Dave Quote
ryland_moore Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Snow Creek Wall has fallen down. Do not go there. Also, tons of rattlesnakes up the trail to where Snow Creek Wall used to be. About 2-3 climbers/hikers per day were coming to the hosiptal suffereing from rattlesnake bites. Turn around before it is too late! No reason to go to Snow Creek Wall. Also heard the Enchantments were about to fall down too. Do not go there. Just boulder in and around Leavenworth and you should be safe. Quote
Sphinx Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Go slog up a volcano. I heard Oregon has some good ones. Don't stay in WA, the climbing sucks here. Quote
texplorer Posted August 22, 2003 Posted August 22, 2003 Do not come to Oregon. The climbing sucks here worse. Our volcanoes are all erupting and those that are not are large piles of dinner-plate stacked crap. Leavenworth is much more solid rock than anything in Oregon. I just got the new guidebook to Smith rock. It is only three pages long and describes how smith rock fell down. Quote
fleblebleb Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 Ballard fell down too so we're not having pub club anymore. If we were still having pub club you still couldn't come there to meet all the cool people and hear Leavenworth secrets, because somebody would probably throw either a chair or a dog at you. It's all a big loss. Quote
klenke Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 Gordon Bennet! What a geeky bunch of questions those were from Richardaiken! Made my otherwise lackluster evening a little more laughable, though. Quote
