  1. [ I'd rather lose easy access then see more snowmobiles and dirt bikes. It's not clear to me though exactly what the motorized outdoor groups agenda is. Are they trying to get rid of fees or are they trying bring their facilities deeper in the forest and wilderness? John did I say this? For christ sake think. If a group...Access Fund and AAC join hands with the 4x4 group from Washington state, and some hunting & fishing groups from here does not mean that neither side wants what the other has. IT MEANS THAT WE GET TOGETHER TO STOP FEES. JESUS H CHRIST this makes me mad why is it assumed I am proposing that we give gound to other groups. By the way, John, the other groups feel the same about us. I have friends that 4x4 and they feel total distrust of climbers, hikers, flyfishers, etc. I know why too. Its because these groups have people that reflect a certain attitude..."I AM BETTER THAT YOU". I see it and read it here all the time. Oh, those red necks, those bubbas etc etc. I'll tell you what, if the time came where I had to choose where I'd line up with it would be with them. They are honest hard working people that have solid values and once you are their friend you are a friend. They don't go around stabbing you in the back.
  2. Greg, BB size shot in a 2 3/4 or 3 inch for home protection is better. At close range it has more shot and does a better job of having no wounded dude in the house just a DOA.

  8. had a great day Report was bad looking but it turned out gooooood skiing. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
  9. Been skiing all day, going again tomorrow. It was great today. started getting wet at about noon. Goggles were iceing up so visibility went down the drain and the ski by braille technique went into gear. Hope some of you wankers are "too" sick to work tomorrow.
  10. I was born into a Republican family and I will die a Republican. I love the fact that I am an American. I have students all over the world that are serving in the US armed forces, and I am blessed with the fact that they consider me a good enough friend to write and request that I stay in touch during their tour of duty over seas. I always showed respect for the government and the flag at school and in public. OK now I am ready to get blasted by all the "liberals".
  11. RIGHT FUCKING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll buy you a beer next time I meet you.
  12. hahahahahahahahaha
  13. I suggested that we join forces with snow mobile, 4x4 groups and the like to save space for all of us and was rediculed when I did it. The NRA linked forces with all hunting, shooting, firearms groups, plus the "other" outdoor groups...4x4, off road(snow mobiles, dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, etc). Now they are one of the strongest lobbiests in DC. This is how "we" as a group should go about fighting fees. Sometimes you have to sleep with your enemy to get the job done.
  14. I copied this from another site. I hope this is not going to get chopped because I have done something terribly wrong. But the point here is this. IF ALL OF US WHO BELONG TO THE ACCESS FUND started sending messages to the AF that they should join hands with other outdoor user groups maybe we would have a chance in the fight over the fees. "Went there Saturday and to my surprise there's a new pay box recently installed. Its called a $5 parking fee. One guy I talked to said it wasn't there last weekend when he was there, so they put it in during the week sometime. I know the lake is part of the state park but I think they've gone to far. What do you get for $5, a vault toilet (that doesn't seem to get empied very often), a gravel lot thats been there forever, and no trash cans. This is one of the cleanest fishing put-in's around because most of us that use it care about it and take out our garbage when we leave. So their not using the money for clean-up. And the state stocks the lake with fish, so the money's not going there either. So where's it going, what am I getting for my $5? I probably still fish there but I think this is BS!!!" OK now if you are interested check this site out http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=3&topic_id=18398&mesg_id=18398&page= If this is redundant then fucking chop it.
  15. Speaking for myself I would not use this or any other site for information about a particular climb or area. I like to talk to people in person, if that is not possible I use a guide book and caution. For another 2 cents leave spray be as it is. It actually serves a function. STRESS relief from living near a metro area. As for climbing board and others go ahead and alter them as you wish.
  16. Thursday was a pleasant day alpine skiing...cool, with packed powder and a few hard packed areas. Friday, I was out XC skiing but the temperatures seemed to be going up. The skiing was very good. Great kick and glide. Saturday, I was out with with Caveman and another friend. The temperatures were absolutely incredible. I can remember this type of weather only about three times in my life time. Once in Alaska and the other times in the UP where I grew up. Its going to be interesting to see what the remainder of the winter brings. The time this happened in Alaska, March was a bonanza month for powder skiing. One could only hope!!! Lets here what others have experienced.
  17. Jesus H Christ I have been found out. All these years of using a 6 inch tape marked off as a 12 incher. Fuckin' eh. hahahahaha
  18. i'll sit down at the book store and read the mag then I can save my money for an outing.
  19. Catbird, i have shown climbing videos to tons of kids over a span of 23 years. The minority kids that showed an interest were of Spanish heritage. I have been working with some kids that are in jail in the past 3 years and of them again its the Spanish kids that look at rock climbing and ask about it. I just wish I had the bucks to do something with these kids but alas I am like 99% of the climbing world a dirt bag that has shuffled from one climb to another with a small hand full of coins in his pocket. Jim Whitaker was trying to get REI to invest some time and money in the central district in the 70's for introducing skiing, climbing , hiking to minority kids, but the board of directors did not go for it. Jim believed like John Harlen...that the porblems of the world would be less if people took an interest in out of doors activities. I know a lot of people dislike the Whitakers but I for one like both of the brothers and have stood my ground when people piss on them.
  20. I have asked some friends if they want to go and climb with me and both have said, NO FUCKING WAY. That is for you crazy white dudes, you guys are tripping. Both of these guys are in jobs that require one to be fit and not afraid of heights(one is a line man and the other a framing contractor). They will go fishing and hunting but that is it. The line man will camp out and the contractor will motel it. He said he spent too much time on the ground with the military to do it for enjoyment. I had a customer that was black and a very ambitious mountaineer. He had no black friends that I ever saw. All his climbing buddies were white or Asian. So one day I got the balls up to ask him why he never climbed with any black guys or gals. He told me that he worked his ass off to leave the situation in which he was raised. He then worked his ass off to remove his mom and dad from the same. Now it was his turn to enjoy the things he saw whites doing. I thought this was a wild answer. I saw him a few times on Rainer, St Helens, Baker and once and a while in Leavenworth, but for the most part he was a mountaineering type of climber. I believe he was active with a guy called Sean Rice back in the 70's.
