    Delta from space

Yah, whatever. I just get really fucking sick of people lambbasting the Corps of Engineers about how they killed the salmon, or how they let New Orleans flood, or whatever the rant du jour is. Fact remains that the CoE operates under the Army, which is directed by the Commander in Chief. If ya wanna blame someone, blame him, and all his predecessors. Oh, BTW, the Bureau of Reclamation killed the salmon when they built Grand Coulee Dam, not the Corps. Every Corps dam ever built on the Columbia and Snake River mainstems has had fish ladders/preservation planned in at the design level and constructed as a necessary part of the project. The P.U.D. dams and those by the BoR did not. In particular, the BoR eliminated it from Grand Coulee because it was deemed to be too expensive. So lay the fuck off the Corps. Fact is, you probably wouldn't be living the high life in the PNW if it wasn't for them. You know, irrigation water, plentiful crops/agriculture, cheap power, wines, microbrews... all that shit that we can live without.
  3. That was one of the weakest replies from HP ever!
  4. Send a PM to AlpineDave. He's pretty adept at making homemade holds, and I'm reasonably sure he's thought of this already. He posted a thread some time ago about making holds, and he linked to his website for much more beta than I cared to read. It's just a suggestion... YMMV

Not a bad idea, no. But see iain's comment and my echo regarding it. The NO city fathers messed with nature in ways that they didn't/couldn't comprehend. To now blame the CoE for the woes of NO is non sequitor.

It's only the CoE's "pet project" because some bunch of idiots a few hundred years ago decided they needed a city built below sea level next to a pre-existing delta in a hurricane zone. And I don't doubt that the Chinese will experience a similar altering of the natural environment that they don't yet realize.

I do indeed miss Dru's Hello Kitty avatar. It was the best of his best. ...and it's 4:20... agebottom
  9. I once saw this act in Tijuana many years ago. This woman took three billiard balls numbered 1, 2, and 3. She put them up her... well you get the idea. She ground around a bit like a belly dancer, then spit them out 1, 2, 3 - not 3, 2, 1. Fuckin' amazing sight to a then 20-year-old. That donkey thing was over the top, though...

  11. I don't think the route matters with her... errrr, him... errrr, whatever it is...
  12. Aw right, the nylon palace is back in the truck... Thanks Erik, for clueing me in. I guess we just had to wait for some of the hotties to wake (sober?) up, huh?
  13. Got me, Ralph. Is the "T" silent?
  14. That looks like Toast. Am I right? And really, Erik, you aren't serious when you say to bring the nylon palace, are ya?
  15. Tsawwassen... WTF is up with that? I spit all over anyone near me whenever I try to say that place...
  16. Thanks Dave, oly, and Matt for the info. I can bring a two-burner "Coleman-style" propane canister stove, a propane canister lantern, a couple of Walrus camp chairs, an 8' x 8' dining canopy, a pot and pan or two for boiling/frying, and a monetary contribution. I was planning on bringing a backpacking tent cuz it's gonna be just me, but since I'm now "with child" we also have the Costco special purchase Kelty 10' x 17' "full-on-assault-style-family-camping-stand-up-to-your-full-height-inside" with screened lounging porch tent. Please tell me to leave this monstrosity at home... Please! No, really... pleeeeeeeeeeeease!!

    Kids RopeUp

olyclimber- Thanks for the info. Nicholas just turned 3 last month, and wears a size 9 right now. I'll have to check and see if they have anything that small, as he's expressed interest in "going climbing with Daddy" lately. He likes to fondle the gear... a good start, I should say. SnowByrd- Ixnay on the Kids Rope-Up this year. I have live helo training with my unit and Tacoma Mountain Rescue this weekend, scheduled long ago. Looking foreward to KRU next year, though... however, I expect to have my virginity deflowered by my first attendance at the "adult" ( ) version of KRU at the end of this month...
  19. OK, so I'm a Rope-Up virgin, and I need some mean beta... 1. Do we just bring our car camping shit and throw down a tent, and there's a covered area for fixing meals? Or do I pull out the ol' dining canopy? YIKES! 2. Do we bring food for just ourselves to feed, or is it customary/expected that you bring some sort of shit to "pot luck" with everyone else? 3. Same question for the beer/alcohol. 4. Who do we pay for reserving the site, keg beer, et al? 5. Acceptable arrival time on Friday evening? Serious responses only, as I have no time right now for bullshit answers and trolls/baiting. TIA.

Oly, How old is Ulysses, what shoe size does he wear, and where did you find the "creepers" for him? My little Nicholas is in the market for rock shoes...
