Well, Josh, assuming that she actually did get to the top of all 14 (Kangchenjunga notwithstanding), how she did it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, does it? I mean, if she was dropped on the top of each summit by some space-age helicopter or something, that would of course negate the feat. Vis-à-vis, no individual effort applied. The fact that she took every single step (whether on her own or short-roped, à la Sandy Hill-Pitman) qualifies her for the recognition being bestowed upon her for this accomplishment, and a congratulatory acknowledgement is warranted. By way of another example, are we to say that Sandy Hill-Pittman did not summit Everest in 1996 because she was short-roped to the top by a Sherpa? No, we do not say that, and the fact remains that Hill-Pittman did indeed summit, although the style in which she summitted certainly left something to be desired. And we all agree that in climbing, points are awarded for style...

Congratulations are in order here. I guess now we sit back and "armchair climb" the dispute about her Kangchenjunga ascent. Does anyone here remember Tomo Cesen's controversial Lhotse "summit" shot about 20 years ago? We discussed it here about 6 years ago, when we still had Cavey on board.

The narrator clearly stated that the money on the left is mandatory spending, and further characterized that by saying "...before we can fix a single road, or build a bridge, or pay a soldier, we have to spend this money..." The point is that you aren't going to save any money on the left of the white line by bringing soldiers home, because their pay doesn't come from that pile in the first place. Dolt. [shameless namedropping] I've known Carlos for over 15 years now, and have climbed with him on a few occasions. I have never met a more modest, personable, caring, and truly genuine human being in all my 50 years on this planet. The guy is simply top notch; no other way to describe it. Years ago, he sent me postcards from his NR K2 trip right after we climbed together at Lightning Dome, while I was laid up in bed for a week because of an OTJ worker's comp back injury. It got me out of bed that much faster. He did a fundraiser for CWMR a couple of years ago in Yakima for practically nothing (I think all he wanted was his gas covered). He encouraged my climbing to no end. I can't say enough great things about the guy. Oh yeah, he has mad climbing skilz, too. [/shameless namedropping] From the fundraiser...
