reductio ad absurdum I've met too many people who's only ability was to regurgitate the material they were taught in school to think that a degree on a cv means anything but the basics. Most people posess a deeper understanding yes, but all do not.

Why is that at all interesting or surprising, except to right wing ideologues, and why does it fucking matter? The rich get a majority of the benefits from our system (as evidenced by their being rich!) why shouldn't they pay proportionately more? Should the poor pay more to protect the property of the wealthy?
