  1. Tyrolean traverse across the valley maybe?
  2. You sound a little uncertain there Pope. Afraid you might have sired a child or two w/ some climbing groupie or something?
  3. RURP, I can't believe you have an opinion on this. Neither Rainier or the real Annapurna are big wall climbs. What a waste of time even talking about it. Sheesh.
  4. Ah, Confuscious is very wise. You got me there. But I haven't contributed my alloted 2.5 kids to the world population problem yet.
  5. Let's hurry up and colonize Mars and the moon so we can start ruining those too! I agree, the biggest problem is too damn many people, w/ no let up in population increase in sight [ 01-28-2002: Message edited by: nolanr ]

Halfway, OR I've been there, I wondered "halfway to where?" The answer is probably nowhere, since that's about what you're in the middle of. Although it is close to the Wallowas, so it's got that going for it.
  7. This might sound even dumber, but...sometimes it's not even frozen, but there's a thick layer of snow floating on top of the water, didn't even come close to punching thru. I've done that on Lake 22 and Source Lake.
  8. Yeah, that's why I didn't fall in. But seriously, I tested the surface real well w/ poles before I ventured out onto it, I had snowshoes on so there was greater weight dispersal. It held. I've done it several times. People have done stupider things and lived to tell about it, I'm sure. And if I it did break, the only thing I would be worried about is getting back onto a solid surface. I'm pretty sure I could make it 2 1/2 miles back down to my car before I died of hypothermia. I don't try stunts like that when I'm way out in the middle of nowhere.
  9. Hey, I've walked across the lake several times. Didn't fall in once. And I've been over to the other side in the midst of all that avalanche run out. There's a pretty cool ice cave over there.

Even better, Dufur, OR (not Dufus). Ask not what you can do 'fer Dufur, but what Dufur can do 'fer you.
  11. Named after first ascensionist or feature works for me. Save the nonsensical, pea brained, potty humor names for sport routes where they belong.
  12. Lake 22 has a very high bumbly factor. I don't know of any idiot getting themself killed up there, but then there aren't a lot of objective hazards.
  13. This brings back happy memories. I think the first post I ever started on this site was something about ice climbing etiquette, and I seem to remember getting flamed quite a bit for it. But time has passed, and those wounds have healed. Seems like maybe attitudes toward TRing ice have mellowed a bit since the last go around.
  14. What, no Montana jokes?
  15. Unless Big Lou meant he wanted to die while bedding some 20 year old hottie...
  16. I found an even better sport on my last snowshoe outing: tackling my female companion and rubbing snow in her face.

    GO HUSKERS!!!!!

Oh well, the contract for the BCS runs out in '07 or something, maybe we can finally go to a playoff after that. Or just go back to the bowl games the way they used to be. What cracks me up is the NCAA wonks keep saying a playoff would never work, it's too many games, "it's not in the best interest of the student-athletes." Ha, what a crock. It's not in the best interest of the pocket books of the NCAA and the Athletic Departments of member schools. They don't give a rats ass about what's best for student-athletes. Somehow every other division of college football other than Division I-A has a playoff and it works fine. What a crock!
  18. Sorry, slightly off topic, but I was the very first person to sign the little log book at the light house on Dungeness Spit this year. It's not quite a first ascent, but I think I still get some bragging rights.

    GO HUSKERS!!!!!

I've never been a Big Red fan, but I gotta agree w/ ya. If the Huskers win, the Ducks are all but guaranteed of getting a share of the national title and the BCS will be exposed for the sham that it is.
  20. Don't mean to be a smart ass, but how many resources do you need? The picture looks pretty cool, why don't you go try it and then tell us about it.
  21. Goodwill nothing, there's probably still a pair of ski polls stashed along the "Treeroot Scramble" up to Lake Serene my buddy and I left several years ago. If you can find 'em, you can have 'em, none of us was ever tempted to go back and look, what w/ that fancy new trail they built.
  22. Literally, the highs were only around 55 and it froze overnight at least once. I spent 4 days down there for Christmas w/ my bro and his family (my 15 month old nephew is the coolest little dude and well on his way to becoming a climber already!). I was down there in Aug., too and everything was kinda brown and scorched and ugly looking. Much more photogenic this time of year, some nice sunsets and sunrises, did a little rambling around and playing on some small sandstone-type formations. Snow in the surrounding foothills down to around 5' K or less.
  23. My buddy got his poles stolen from where he stashed them about half way in on the approach to the Temple of Kangaroo Ridge a few years ago. Not where some pedastrian would be strolling along. Either some jerkwad climber/hiker, or a really big marmot w/ opposable thumbs.
  24. That's unfortunate, you're giving grammar lessons and then you misspell toung? Tongue? Huh, what?

    Just Curious

I just reached 300 posts. In another 5 years or so I'll catch up to where Cavey and Dru were at in late 2001.
