Huh .. interesting. I can send a v4 which is like .11+ (I thought) but haven't been able to get close to .10d trad, although I guess I haven't tried either. Maybe I'm just a trad pussy. Guess it looks like I'm just cut out for sport climbing and bouldering. Hey DFA, wanna go climbin'?

quote: Originally posted by snoboy: quote: I don't get it Winter. Why is that inconsistent? Never mind. I think leading .10d trad is harder than bouldering v4 but what the hell do I know?
-
Oh hey, don't get me wrong. I'm not dissin the v420 bouldering, I was just impressed by the .10d trad. I assumed he led it when he used the word "trad." Otherwise, what's the point ... you get extra points 'cause you have to clean?

Let me get this right ... you just sent a v4 and your leading 10d trad? Perhaps I'm being trolled ... but what's up with that? [ 11-19-2002, 07:59 PM: Message edited by: Winter ]

quote: Originally posted by yaya: winter sucks, but I am looking for a reason not to hate it Hey! Take it easy there. Some meager accomplishments that I enjoyed: - Liberty Ridge (scary fall) - Zebra Zion (super fun route) - Pingora Peak (beautiful setting and the perfect finger crack on perfect rock) - West Ridge of Prussik Pk. (car-to-car in a day ... suffer fest) - Climbing the South side of Hood with my friend's 12 year-old, 80 lb. kid in 50 mph winds at the bottom and serious rock fall and weird choss ice up top (I won't ever whine about conditions any more) Biggest failures: there were so many - the recent spanking I suffered from the Prince of Darkness - getting chased off the East Face of Pingora and out of the Cirque of the Towers by lighnting and shitty weather - freezing my ass off in Red Rocks for the first time this Spring and getting lost on every f*!#@cking route we tried to climb. Can't wait to 2003!

quote: Originally posted by Fairweather: True, person A will have to make more difficult decisions. Do they really NEED to spend $3 on a latte? Maybe if they make a good decision here, their personal economic future will be brighter. Person B will more likely go ahead and spend the money. In the process he/she will contribute to the economic process that gives the person behind the latte counter a JOB, and so on down the line. Alpine K, Might I suggest a book on basic economics? (Hint: Avoid anything written by a guy called Marx.) Uhhh ... I think Alpine K was trying to defend the progressive tax. In response, you suggest that by giving rich people more money to spend they will stiumlate the economy and raise everyone's standard of living. Sounds to me like trickle down economics. You don't help the poor by giving the rich more mooney to spend. Shit, what would robin hood think about that economic theory?

quote: Originally posted by Fairweather: Winter, As usual, you have misread my post, or perhaps been blinded by you presumptions about me. I do not support a flat tax. When I say that the current code is "progressive enough", I mean just that. The middle class that entertains this flat tax notion simply hasn't done the math. Generally speaking, I think the current code that steepens as you "climb the ladder of success", so to speak, is fair. I'm not sure, but I think the top rate is around 35%. (??) A system that taxes the wealthy at, say 70%, would be unfair. Punishing the rich to such a degree kills innovation, hard work, capital risk, and the rewards thereof. Touche, my friend. You are correct. I did misread your post and assumed that, like a good conservative (or libertarian), you favored a flat tax. Your post, however, was not altogether clear on your position. I couldn't figure out what you meant either way. I AM glad to see you have fallen into line with the traditional liberal philosophies of the progressive tax. What would MtnGoat think? quote: Originally posted by Fairweather: Last I read, the richest 10% pay over 60% of federal income tax collections. Do you really think a FLAT TAX would make middle-class taxes go DOWN? I don't even need my calculator to figure that one out. Seems to me the current tax system is "progressive" enough! Holy shit, I hadn't even read this one yet ... in fact I'm not even sure what FW is saying here. Uhhh ... so the richest 10% pay > 60% of the federal income tax collections, but how much of the wealth do they control? I'd say that proportion is just about right. AND, who do you think stands to benefit from a flat tax? Uhh ... the richest 10% that are paying > 60% of the tax revenues. Which calculator are you using? So yes, the flat tax will increase taxes for the middle class (depending upon your definition). Is that good because the system is too progressive and should provide the rich with more money to save at the expense of the middle class?

quote: Originally posted by Fairweather: In raw dollars, the wealthy still pay the vast share of local revenues. How the hell is the government supposed to work? So we make sure the wealthy are not paying the "vast share" of tax dollars on a local level. So the 1% of Americans that control the 60% of wealth in this country (or whatever those figures are) have to pay less than 60% of the taxes? How is that fair?

Even worse we thought we were headed down into Zigzag canyon but ended up in the gully on the far west side of the ski area. Dumped us out right at the lodge. Who needs a compass for a short outing on the Palmer in November? Page top suckas ... [ 11-18-2002, 05:29 PM: Message edited by: Winter ]
