  5. Aidian, Any person worth being friends with would respect your right to smoke or not smoke pot. You should respect their rights and not judge them only on their smoking habits. I don't know what they teach you in school these days, but back when I was a sprout we used to have to sit through these films ment to scare us away from the evil weed. They were all bullshit of course. I've heard the same statistic about pot smoke that you sited, but you should keep in mind that smoking one cigarette will expose you to at least 10 times the amount of smoke that the avarage pot smoker gets in one smoke break. If you smoke a pack a day your lungs have to deal with A LOT more smoke, and thus carcinogens, than your avarage stoner. Your friend that looked sick could have had other problems totally unrelated to smoking pot. While medical facts back you up on the whole reduced lung capacity thing, I suggest hanging out with some French climbers some day. Those guys smoke cigarettes nonstop and they still function great even at high altitude(no kidding I've seen it). As to your comment about smoking in the hut, camp Muir is a digusting pit anyway. I think pot smoke improves the conditions in the hut.
  6. There is great bud in the US and there will be even more once we finish with Afghanistan and take on the great Satan to the north.

I hear everyone who is against the war talk about, "reaching justice," or something like that. I don't know what that means when you are talking about terrorists who are hiding half way around the world in a hostile country. I watched a good program on Frontline about the US response to terror over the last 25 years. In the vast majority of cases US responses have been weak and inefective. And terrorists have only done worse and worse things to the US. I think we may create more terrorists through war, but I think being wimpy and letting them get away with their attacks on us will make the situation worse than it is right now. So how would you either put an end or seriously cut back terror without using the military In the long run I agree with Tod. We need an energy source that doesn't come from the mid east, but in the near term I see no alternitive but to use military. [ 11-13-2001: Message edited by: AlpineK ]

Exactly if your pro peace...give us a detailed solution to the problem not some crap about reaching justice.

  10. J We weren't loggers...and I think if you show some verbal tact you could have gotten a long way. Of course if you had walked up to me and told me I was a looser pothead I would have told you to fuck off...basic psychology. I think if we just sat back and said sorry you don't like us, people like Osama would just take that as encouragement to do something else nasty. The US has done that plenty in the recent past. Look at the marines in Beruit. What was it..200 of our guys killed and all we did was pack up and go home. Since then terrorism targeted against the US has only got worse. I don't think we really have a choise but to kill Osama.

I bet there's some good pot there. I'm on my way. Seriously though I think Osama(SP?) is an opportunist and a megalomaniac. He just found a cause that he can get a lot of folks fired up over. I think there is resentment because we always back Israel, and I guess people don't like us basing troops near Meca. To be fair I think we should be even handed when it comes to Palistine and Israel, but I think as long as our economy is based on oil we are going to have troops near the big oil fields. So my solution is to be fair with Israel and Palistine, try and work towards an economy that isn't based on oil, help the people of Afghanistan, and bomb the fuck out of Osama's group until every last one of them is dead.
  13. Once again lets look at the facts. There were 3 people smoking pot in the hut, there were 3 others there that didn't mind at all, and finally there were 2 other people there who we all talked to, but didn't have the guts to politely ask if the pot smoking could happen outside. I bet if you pointed out the impact it had on others (nicely) we all could have worked out something, but instead Scott chose to wait until he was behind a computer to complain. So now all we really have is a flame war. I'm OK with that it's a lot better than a real war. 14. Zee..I'm a better skier cause I've spent my whole life on skis, which I feel lucky for. Who cares what you think anyway.
  15. Man you guys make me laugh. I don't harbor any ill will to Scott. I think he needs to work on the whole passive/agressive thing though. On the other hand I think this Dan Larson guy is a little wanker. I hope from now on everyone heaps as much abuse on Dan as they're able to. Thats right Dan you suck!
  16. Scott..Dude did you say you skied every run at every resort on the north side of Tahoe you are such a god. I don't even think I'm worthy of licking your boots. I've never met someone who skied every run at one let alone all of the ski areas on the north shore. Hahahahahahaha [ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: AlpineK ]
  17. Scott, I took a look at a photo of you on your web site and from that I now remember seeing you in the hut. In fact I remember you walking past me and talking to me. You had plenty of opportunity to tell me how you felt right then and there, but you didn't. You chose to go home and hide behind your computer and whine to everyone. So based on that, I think you are a lame ass, wimpy piece of shit. Who the hell is this Dan Larson guy anyway; I remember him talking about graduating from the mounties last year. He sure seems to know a lot about climbing and climbers based on his (has it been one year yet?) experience. Before you go spouting off about climbers or skiers and drugs Dan you may want to review the history of climbing. Try Yosemity in the 70's. Look at what those guys did while being swacked on stuff a lot stronger than pot. I don't know you Dan, but I'm pretty sure you suck. Cheers to you uptight guys. Your quite funny when you get worked up. PS you may want to see a doctor about that stick shoved up your ass; I think it reaches your brain stem!
  18. Well Scott I ski up to camp muir a lot so fair warning. I did offer to share. I'm sorry your such an uptight fuck. I bet your a lame ass skier too. Oh yeah you had a question; I most likely would have stepped out with my friends if you had ask politely. And their were no parents with children up there. 19. Ha ha Scotty you sure are one uptight bastard. There were at least 3 other people in the hut who didn't smoke and saw no problem with it actually 4 since I just got off the phone with a friend. So screw you you uptight piece of shit. I walk into bars all the time where people are smoking cigarettes even though I don't smoke tobacco. We had a great ski down to the Nisqually down a gully I've never skied before (I hope that shocks you). You uptight people make me laugh. Thanks for posting. Any more out there? [ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: AlpineK ]
  20. Thanks for the chances to make fun of you Comrad. If you would have thought ahead and left some scotch on the Nisqually F. and I would have drunk it and laughed at you while you downclimbed. K
  21. I don't blame you Dave. I can't figure out why you would want to put tele boots in a randonee set up.
  22. Boulder hmmm. I lived there for three years. If all we are talking about is rock climbing (alpine, crag) then Boulder wins hands down. In fact I can't think of any place close. The weather is good for climbing most of the time too. There are a lot of hot college chicks there too, but I see hotties all over Seattle; their just dressed for the weather. Skiing can be good too, but since Colorado is a desert state they never get a good base. Powder days rule but once the snow gets packed down watch out for rocks. I've never had the bases of my skis worked on so much as when I lived in CO. Also avalanche conditions are fucked up a lot of the time. Ice climbing is good, but it's so popular that a lot of the time it's like climbing a ladder. Now we get to the negative. There are a lot of posers. They're anoying, but you can overlook them. The big negatives are; uptight east coast fucks(they really get to you after a while), and the job market really sucks if your not a high powered yuppy fuck. There are jobs, if you work in a restaurant you can get good tips, or if you do massage stuff you can bank; but if you want a regular job bend over and bite your lip. I spent a few years there I climbed a lot and then I got the fuck out of that hellhole.
  23. I've been working as a tree guy for years. Don't expect to climb trees right off. Expect to drag and chip a lot of brush when you start. If you can handle that you may get to climb trees. Your climbing experience is a big plus, but you need to learn how to prune trees and eventually how to kill trees. (if you're squeamish about killing forget it) Also since jobs are almost always bid you need to do some nutty things while trying to be safe. If you are real conservative about safety forget it.Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades [ 11-04-2001: Message edited by: AlpineK ]
  24. One of my great loves is picking on tele skiers, but that's because I know where all their buttons are. I wouldn't confuse that with dislike of telemarkers. In fact I ski with a number on a regular basis. My only real concern is the disregard for the history of AT skiing in the Cascades. While cavemen, and even perhaps Captn. Caveman, hunted sabertooth tigers on skis that are more or less nordic, the history of skiing in the Cascades is full of AT skiing. Telemarking only really gained a foothold in the time period when alpine cable binding were phased out and good AT bindings came out. If you look at modern equipment there really isn't a big difference between tele and AT gear, and in the next couple years the gap is going to get a lot smaller. If you are an alpine skier and you want to ski stuff in the backcountry I say stick with the gear you are used to while you are learning about avalanche prediction and all the funky types of wild snow out there. You can switch your turning style later. I would add that I don't think tele skiers are having anymore fun than I am ripping it up in the powder. I'm thinking skiing is going to be pretty good this year!!!!!
  25. If any of you want to ski on truely historic Cascade ski gear my father has 2 pairs of Head Standards (215 cm) with Marker toe pieces and alpine cable bindings. He also has some real skins.
