Today my job was to turn a bunch of hazard trees in this new suburban developement into habitat snags. (cut the top out so it can't hit anything of value and girdle the base of the tree so it dies meanwhile birds live in it) There was this one tree that I'd had a bad feeling about. It was well over 100' tall and stone cold dead with conks growing out of it. The wind was blowing when we got there, so I looked at it for a bit and then decided to think about my plan while I worked on a tree 20' from it. While setting up to cut this other tree I heard this large crack sound. I turned around and watched as 80' of the top of the tree broke and fell away from where my helper and I were standing. Fortunately the tree fell away from the house too. I was eventually going to have to climb higher in the tree then the break point, so I feel pretty lucky. Plus I still got to charge the customer for turning his tree into a snag.

Fuck yeah, and only one more day of work this year.

Hmmm, I guess I'll just keep working on my deck.

That's the other issue. If Gary doesn't have the balls to fight his TA's mano-a-mano then why should he sneak around posting about them behind their backs. At least invite them on so we can be entertianed by your geek fight.

When it comes down to it I bet Gary is pretty smart when it comes to his specific academic persuit. The problem is he thinks that his smarts in a narrow field imply that he's smart at lots of things. Sorry to break it to you, but you lack a lot of street smarts. It doesn't mean that you can't learn, but for now I recommend being more humble.

I'd wear one of them funny 4 pointed hats all the time. Maybe a group of us smart Phds after an evening at cocktail parties full of witty banter could drive around till we find some dumb nonthreatening people then make fun of them.

You may call it bivouacing but the majority of climbers refer to bivouacing as an unplanned night out without the necesities to keep yourself from shivering all night. A bivvy means you screwed up and or underestimated your objective. I've done a few bivis, and I don't really care to practice. Have fun camping.
