  1. I don't suppose you know anything about that car fire in the parking garage across from Pioneer Place do you?
  2. I think those pigs just flew by my window too. Don't add me to the goat camp. I agree with some of his perspectives but his over-the-top and selective libertarianism doesn't wash with moi.
  3. Were you as thoughtful of the people you inconvenienced when you marched or does convenience only matter when its you individually inconvenienced? Was Trask and Greg with you? I've seen many cars burn and not one exploded. I was born in Oregon and thats how we used to dispose of old cars back in the day. I'm not advocating destruction of property though--unless its your own and for fun.

A guy in colorado was prosecuted for manslaughter when he hit a skier below him as he was barrelling down a run and killed the slower skier.
  5. Whats that mean? Toyota has been advertising that they will be offering a hydrogen powered SUV for sale starting later this year. I believe it will only initially be available in Japan.
  6. The perpetrators didn't "blow up" shit. They set the vehicles on fire. You may not find a difference, I do. I don't recall that ELF claimed responsibility although one of the alleged perpetrators, Tres Arrow, is a member of ELF as well as Cascadia Forest Alliance (which I might add is non-violent). They also torched a few dump trucks at Ross Island Concrete. Tres' still on the run. Violence against property in the form of protest has a long history in america. I don't advocate violence against people.

The original question referred to boarders squatting on the hill. Whats so wrong about someone snowplowing down a hill or moving side to side in wide arcs? At least they are making downward progress and not loitering on the hill. Its the squatting mid-hill I was wondering about.
  9. What loose crap? Only loose stool I found was the guana both Winter and myself placed our hands in atop pitch 2. Have you done this climb? Pretty solid for Smith.
  10. I paid $1.50 for my antibot plates and got to drink the milk out of the jug beforehand. I used string I had laying around. 4 seasons later they are still going strong. Did they lube ya up before going hard to the hole or was this a tear-jerker?
  11. Sounds like Trask should find hisself a vietnamese gardner. I hear he's unemployed.
  12. Are you referring to Thin Air muffy? Thats a 5.9 and a lot of fun. The easier multi-pitch route on Koala (name escapes me) is about a 5.4 and as I remember it, a clip up. My memory is failing me in my old age though. Other nice trad climbs at Smith are the super-classic Spiderman and Zebra Zion (AWESOME climb!!). Don't forget Beacon for some nice opportunities to sink your nuts.
  13. Posted to the appropriate audience, no doubt.

My question is more towards "why" they do this? Any thoughts?
  15. And this is truly what matters most.

I've only been skiing a few years and exclusively telemark with a few failed attempts at AT (only downhill I've ever done has been on Tele or AT gear). It was about my second year that I finally swallowed my aesthetic pride and ventured forth on the groomers. Even then, I rarely encountered the steeps, instead favoring the gentler "bunny" slopes and their emasculating names. Soon, I found my ego spitting me onto steeper terrain where I encountered a strange phenomenon (and a plethora of injuries and broken ski poles). I am not completely familiar with skiing etiquette but a friend well versed in the subject told me that the downhill skier generally has the right of way and that you should remain in control at all times. Admittedly I failed miserably at the latter point. However, mostly out of fear I always remained conscious of my position relative to those above me so as to not get creamed by someone as shitty as me barreling downwards. I've noticed a strange phenomenon though. I've been to Meadows, Timberline, Nelson, Manning, Whistler and Vail and I've seen it in all these places: snowboarders lounging in the middle of the slope. Now, I don't have anything against snowboarders at all. I'm just curious as to the reasoning behind this. Often it has happened where I have crested a hill, schussing downward in my not-so-elegant arcs and having to resort to "survival turns" to avoid these folks sitting on the slopes. And its almost never just one. So what gives?
  17. Yes
  18. Chris-- I stayed at Flagg Point both times. Both times over the christmas holidays. First time solo with my dog, second time with my then-girlfriend. I thought it was romantic, she didn't--in spite of the bottle of wine and candles I had secretly lugged up there in my pack. As you probably know, its about 9 miles there in the winter on skis or snowshoes. Pretty secluded except for snowmobilers. Accomodations are great--everything you need except food and running water.
  19. Greg needs to spend more time surfing porn than engaging in right-wing diatribes and lascivious posting here. I've stayed at a fire watch tower in the Mt. Hood Wilderness a couple times, once to 3 days the other for 4. Awesome experiences both times.
  20. A number of climbing areas near freeways come to mind. Rocky Butte in Portland is one of the worst I've ever encountered. When I saw the header for this post I immediately thought you were referring to a crag in Salt Lake City (can't remember the name) that is right across canyon and freeway from a gun range. Very disconcerting to hear caps popping whilst working a sketchy move. Chipping holds with a .45?
  21. California is reknown for its cabs and zins. Try a bottle of Caymus Cabernet and you'll appreciate true wine sublimity. The true vino values, as pointed out by others, are from our southern brethren in S. America and Australia. Portugal also kicks out some decent values. I'm thirsty and its only 8:30
  22. Chris-- Every year Oregon Mountain Community demos tele equipment at ski bowl around the beginning f the season. This year it was canceled due to lack of snow. I don't know if they've rescheduled.
  23. I'll pass by to see if you hosers are there.
  24. I doubt its very dry there. Rain tooling perhaps?
  25. Very cool footage shredder! That looked really sweet.
