We got an email today saying that someone had thrown a bunch of stolen climbing gear over their fence into their yard. If you have had gear stolen recently in the Seattle area send us a message and we'll get you into contact.

Trauma 1 is for people who shove stuff up their bum, right?

A friend of mine in high school did it, he got a rope burn all around his body. His next brilliant move was to hold up a bank. He got prison, not a rope burn.

On May 1, 2013 we will be implementing a policy change regarding usernames requiring current and new users to disclose their full names. Background: After running CascadeClimbers for 12 years we recognize how important our major contributors are to the success of this website and our mission. These are the people posting the awesome trip reports and participating in constructive message threads. At the same time we have witnessed the detrimental effects of our anonymous user base. People who derail otherwise great conversations, spewing vitriol and nonsense wherever they wish. They take up moderators time and discourage people from participating. We are sorry it has taken 12 years to realize this, but it's clear that the majority of our major contributors do so disclosing their identity while most of our problem users post anonymously. It's time for CascadeClimbers to pivot for the better requiring our user base to use their full names. The Verification Process: To verify username we will use a two step process. There will be a page in your profile where you can 1) upload a picture or scan of your drivers license or passport. 2) You must include a link to one of your social profiles (Facebook, Google Plus, or LinkedIn). On May 1st unverified profiles will be deactivated until a moderator can verify your identity. Cancelation: We realize for many this will be a unpopular choice. Since we are all about choices we are giving you the ability to cancel you account, which will delete your account from our system 30 days after you deactivate it. If you change your mind after the initial 30 days we can rescue your account and initiate the verification process.

A virus is an organism. It needs a specific environment to live in, and comes prepared with the tools to live in that. Not any different then sticking one of you in the desert with no food or water; you are going to die, like a virus without a cell. But viruses live in a cell you say! If you don't think the earth is an organism that you live in you need to have a chat with Uncle Gore. In many cases they adapts better then we do; they don't need a paleo diet! This headline is actually misleading. All viruses learn; it's called evolution. Many viruses in animals have similar mechanisms described in the article for evading the immune system, which usually involved hijacked host genes (Macrophage Inhibitory Proteins, Interleukins, G Protein Coupled Receptors). They contain genes that overtake the cell cycle (Cyclins) and inhibit apoptosis (cell suicide, BCL2).
-
Not true, we extended it. We might make one more extension as we try to help a few people who are having trouble with the gallery.
-
We've extended the contest until March 4th. If you haven't submitted photos and are interested in helping us distill the finalists please drop me a PM.

After seeing Zero Dark Thirty the other night and reading the Esquire article I can understand why the shooter came out, because the narrative of how Bin Laden was exactly killed was not correct. I don't think he is looking for recognition due to the fact he didn't even tell the President he was the shooter. I believe his sentiments about not getting any benefits after 16 years of service, 10 of which have been in constant battle, are justified, it's not the same as 20 years of being in mainly non-combat role like being a chef or dentist (not to degrade these essential support positions), but at the same time I don't understand why he just didn't tough it out for 4 years and get a non-combat role job like most serviceman do who are finishing their careers. That said, a lot of these guys incredibly don't have very high rank at careers end considering their skill level and combat experience, so their pension is relatively small and it might be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when your life at home is falling apart.

We are looking at throwing in some prizes and swag to random selected entries for those holdouts.

Great boots I love mine.

The Honey Boo Boo mother actually took all the money and put it in a trust and invested it; they aren't rolling around in a Lambo. The only stupid ones are those watching it. If you think our serviceman not getting any benefits after almost 12 years of war is an outrage, write a letter to your congressman/women asking them to change the military retirement benefits to reflect what we have put these guys through.
